A lab technician performs routine technical tasks, tests, and experiments to support scientific investigations, which includes performing diagnostic tests, maintaining and calibrating equipment, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring quality control and safety protocols are followed. They are responsible for documenting all findings, managing lab supplies, and working to solve problems and maintain a clean and safe workspace.
Key responsibilities
Testing and analysis: Perform diagnostic tests on samples, analyze data, and conduct tests on new products or experimental processes.
Equipment management: Set up, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot issues, and ensure all instruments are functioning correctly.
Quality control: Execute quality control processes to ensure the accuracy and precision of tests and results.
Data and record keeping: Accurately document test outcomes, analyze results, and maintain detailed records and archives.
Safety and sanitation: Adhere to safety protocols, maintain a clean and sanitized workspace, handle chemicals and materials properly, and ensure infection control procedures are followed.
Sample and supply management: Collect, process, and store specimens, and manage laboratory supplies, including restocking consumables.
Reporting: Prepare reports on findings for laboratory management and communicate results to physicians or other specialists when necessary.
