An IHC Technician specializes in performing immunohistochemistry tests on tissue samples to detect specific antigens using antibodies. These tests are critical in

Key Responsibilities
Prepare tissue samples (fixation, embedding, sectioning using microtome)
Perform IHC staining (manual or automated platforms)
Antigen retrieval, antibody selection, and optimization
Operate and maintain IHC instruments and lab equipment
Ensure quality control and validation of test results
Interpret staining patterns and assist pathologists
Maintain accurate documentation and laboratory records
Follow SOPs, biosafety, and regulatory guidelines
Troubleshoot staining or technical issues
Manage reagents, antibodies, and inventory
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of histopathology and immunology
Expertise in IHC techniques and staining protocols
Attention to detail and precision
Ability to work with automated IHC systems (e.g., Ventana, Dako)
Understanding of quality assurance and lab accreditation standards (CAP, NABL, CLIA, ISO)
Good documentation and reporting skills
Teamwork and communication skills
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in:
Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)
Life Sciences / Biotechnology / Biochemistry
Diploma or certification in Histopathology / IHC (preferred)
Hands-on laboratory training or internship in pathology labs
Experience
Entry-level: 0-1 year (with training)
Experienced: 2-5+ years in diagnostic or research labs
