The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic tests, preparing specimens, operating laboratory equipment, and ensuring the accuracy of test results. The role supports physicians and medical professionals by providing timely and reliable data used in diagnosing and treating patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect, label, and prepare samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for testing.
Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests (e.g., hematology, microbiology, biochemistry).
Operate and maintain lab instruments such as microscopes, centrifuges, and analyzers.
Record and analyze test results, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Follow strict procedures for quality control and safety standards.
Report test findings to medical staff or enter them into laboratory information systems (LIS).
Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and sterility of the lab environment.
Manage inventory of lab supplies and reagents; report shortages.
Assist in calibration and troubleshooting of lab equipment.
Comply with infection control protocols and biosafety regulations.
Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
Qualifications:
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
Valid registration or license with a recognized medical laboratory council (if applicable).
1-3 years of relevant experience in a clinical or diagnostic laboratory preferred.
Key Skills:
Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
Attention to detail and accuracy in test results.
Proficiency in lab software and data entry.
Familiarity with safety, hygiene, and quality control standards.
