Job Summary:

Chandigarh University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lab Instructor to support the Chemistry Department in conducting laboratory sessions, assisting students with experimental procedures, and ensuring the effective and safe operation of the chemistry labs. The Lab Instructor will work closely with faculty to facilitate hands-on learning, promote best practices in lab safety, and contribute to the academic success of students in chemistry courses.

Key Responsibilities:

Lab Support & Instruction:

Assist in the preparation, setup, and demonstration of laboratory experiments and activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Provide direct instruction and supervision to students during laboratory sessions, ensuring students follow appropriate experimental procedures. Offer guidance on techniques, lab equipment, and chemical safety measures.

Laboratory Maintenance:

Ensure proper organization, cleanliness, and maintenance of the chemistry lab and equipment. Check the availability of chemicals, reagents, and other materials required for experiments and order them as needed. Maintain and calibrate lab instruments and equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure adherence to all safety guidelines and procedures within the lab environment. Conduct safety drills, maintain a safe working environment, and monitor the proper disposal of hazardous chemicals. Monitor the proper use and handling of laboratory equipment and chemicals by students.

Academic Support:

Assist faculty in preparing lab manuals, experiments, and other instructional materials. Provide additional tutoring or support to students struggling with lab concepts or procedures. Help in grading practical exams, lab reports, and assignments.

Administrative Duties:

Maintain accurate records of materials used, experiments conducted, and student progress. Assist in the preparation of documentation related to lab schedules, experiments, and safety procedures.

Qualifications:

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field from a recognized university. Relevant certifications or training in laboratory safety and management is a plus.

Experience:

Previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably within an academic environment. Hands-on experience with laboratory instruments and equipment in a chemistry laboratory. Familiarity with maintaining lab materials and chemicals.

Skills & Abilities:

Strong knowledge of chemistry concepts, laboratory practices, and safety protocols. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with faculty and students. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Traits:

Passion for teaching and student development. Ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to lab equipment. Good time management and multitasking skills.
