Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Laboratory Management & Maintenance

Maintain all laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments in proper working condition. Ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and safety within the lab environment. Regularly inspect and calibrate lab apparatus to maintain accuracy and efficiency. Label and arrange chemicals and specimens systematically.

2. Inventory & Procurement

Maintain an updated inventory of lab materials, chemicals, and biological specimens. Forecast and requisition supplies in coordination with the Head of Department or Principal. Monitor stock usage and ensure safe storage and disposal of chemicals and waste.

3. Support for Practical Sessions

Prepare materials, equipment, and setups required for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology practicals. Assist teachers and students during practical classes. Ensure that experiments are conducted safely and as per prescribed guidelines. Provide demonstrations when required under teacher supervision.

4. Safety & Compliance

Enforce safety protocols for students and staff inside the lab. Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and ensure proper labeling of all chemicals. Conduct regular safety drills and ensure the availability of fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and emergency exits.

5. Record Keeping & Reporting

Maintain logbooks of experiments, equipment usage, and breakages. Record all receipts and issues of lab materials. Prepare periodic reports on stock status, repairs, and maintenance.

6. Coordination & Training

Coordinate with subject teachers for scheduling lab periods and experiment requirements. Assist in setting up science exhibitions, fairs, and project work. Train students on safe and responsible handling of lab materials.

Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor's Degree in Science (B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, or Biology preferred). Prior experience in managing a school science laboratory (composite lab experience preferred). Strong knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and maintenance. Organizational, record-keeping, and multitasking abilities. Good communication and teamwork skills.
