Job Description

Spectroscopic Analysis:

Operate and maintain analytical instruments like the Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) to determine the chemical composition of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished metal products.

Sand Testing:

Conduct various tests on molding and core sands, including measuring green strength (compressive strength), permeability, moisture content, grain fineness number (GFN), and compactability, to ensure parameters meet process standards.

Quality Control & Compliance:

Monitor material quality, identify issues in production processes, and recommend adjustments based on test results. Ensure all testing procedures comply with industry standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM, NABL) and internal standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Equipment Management:

Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of all laboratory equipment, including spectrometers, universal testing machines (UTM), hardness testers, and sand testing apparatus.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

Analyze test data, maintain detailed documentation and records (often using a Laboratory Information Management System - LIMS), and generate comprehensive reports for quality reviews, management, and customer audits.

Safety & Training:

Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols, manage the safe handling and disposal of chemicals, and may be involved in training junior staff on testing techniques.
Typical Qualifications

Education:

A Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is typically required.

Experience:

Prior hands-on experience in a foundry, metallurgical, or relevant industrial lab setting, with specific knowledge of spectro analysis and sand testing techniques.

Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, proficiency in relevant testing methods and data analysis, and the ability to work collaboratively with production teams.
