Job Summary:

The Chemistry Lab Assistant provides essential support in the preparation, maintenance, and management of college-level chemistry laboratories. The assistant is responsible for organizing lab equipment, preparing chemical solutions, ensuring safety standards, assisting faculty during lab sessions, and supporting students during practical experiments.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

Minimum of a B.Sc. in Chemistry or related field.

Experience:

0-2 years of lab experience preferred (internships or academic lab work counts).

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and instruments; understanding of chemical safety (MS DS, PPE, etc.).

Other Skills:

Strong organizational skills Attention to detail Good communication skills Ability to follow instructions precisely Basic computer skills (MS Office, lab inventory systems)

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and label chemical solutions, reagents, and materials required for laboratory sessions. Assist instructors in setting up and dismantling experiments for practical classes. Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments such as pH meters, spectrophotometers, burettes, and balances. Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals and glassware. Monitor laboratory safety protocols and report any incidents or unsafe practices. Assist students during laboratory sessions with equipment use and basic procedures. Clean and sterilize lab equipment after use. Maintain inventory of lab supplies and request reorders when necessary. Dispose of chemical waste safely according to institutional and environmental guidelines. Keep accurate records of chemicals used, damaged equipment, and lab usage logs. Participate in periodic lab safety audits and training programs.
