Job Description

At Festivals from India, we are hiring on behalf of Kiran Nadar Museum of Art as they are looking for a Music Curator. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in curating vibrant and engaging music programs that complement and advance our mission of promoting cultural exchange and artistic exploration in all aspects of the performing arts. Working closely with internal teams, the Music Curator will conceptualise, plan, and execute a diverse range of music performances, festivals and workshops.
About KNMA:
Established at the initiative of the avid art collector Kiran Nadar, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) opened its doors to the public in January 2010, as the first private museum of art exhibiting Modern and Contemporary works from India and the sub-continent. Located in the heart of New Delhi, KNMA as a non-commercial, not-for-profit organization intends to exemplify the dynamic relationship between art and culture through its exhibitions, publications, educational, and public programs.

  • The vetting process for this role comprises 2-3 rounds of interviews and may be followed by a brief assignment.
  • Festivals from India is hiring for this role on behalf of KNMA.
  • This is an on-site, full-time position based in New Delhi.

Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify, select, and engage artists representing various music genres, including Hindustani, Carnatic, Western classical, folk, rock, pop, indie, fusion, etc., for standalone performances, festivals, ensembles, and other programming initiatives.
  • Develop innovative festival and thematic concepts that align with the museum's larger curatorial vision and strategic goals, fostering interdisciplinary connections and engaging diverse audiences.
  • Curate music workshops aimed at educating and engaging younger audiences and the larger community.
  • Lead the implementation of music programming initiatives from conceptualization to execution, artist coordination and repertoire selection.
  • Maintain a pulse on emerging and established artists, trends and audience preferences through ongoing research, attendance at live performances, and engagement with the wider music community.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams to ensure seamless integration and promotion of music programs within the museum's overall cultural programming.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Curation or a music-related field.
  • Background and specialisation in one or more genres of music as a curator, performer, academic, or researcher, with a deep understanding of diverse musical traditions and styles.
  • Creative thinking skills to develop innovative and compelling music programming concepts that resonate with diverse audiences and advance the museum's mission.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with artists effectively, collaborators, and internal stakeholders.
