Job Description

A kitchen steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of a kitchen, including washing dishes, cleaning equipment, and ensuring a sanitary food preparation environment. They also assist with stocking and inventory, and may help with basic food prep tasks. Key Responsibilities:

Dishwashing:

Washing dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils by hand or using dishwashers.

Cleaning and Sanitizing:

Cleaning kitchen surfaces, floors, equipment, and work areas to maintain hygiene standards.

Inventory Management:

Assisting with receiving and storing deliveries, monitoring cleaning supplies, and reporting shortages.

Waste Disposal:

Properly disposing of kitchen waste and recyclables.

Assisting Kitchen Staff:

Supporting chefs and other kitchen staff with tasks like food preparation, such as blending soups or prepping vegetables, and restocking supplies.

Maintaining Sanitation Standards:

Ensuring the kitchen and equipment meet health and safety regulations.

Following Safety Procedures:

Adhering to established safety guidelines and procedures.

Operating Equipment:

Using dishwashing machines and cleaning tools safely and efficiently.

Maintaining Organization:

Keeping the kitchen area, including dishwashing and storage areas, organized and in an "inspection-ready" condition.

Inventory Management:

Assisting with inventory of kitchen supplies and reporting shortages to management.

Assisting with Food Preparation (occasionally):

May help with basic food preparation tasks like blending soups or peeling vegetables.

Maintaining Equipment:

Ensuring kitchen equipment is properly cleaned and maintained.
