Kitchen & Canteen Head (School - Vegetarian)

Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced and passionate Kitchen & Canteen Head to oversee and manage the daily operations of the school kitchen and canteen, ensuring a focus on nutritious and wholesome vegetarian meals. The ideal candidate will be skilled in preparing both South Indian and North Indian vegetarian dishes and will be responsible for managing kitchen staff, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring that meals meet the dietary needs of students while adhering to school rules.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Expertise in Vegetarian Cooking:

o Prepare and oversee the preparation of delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals, focusing on both South Indian and North Indian cuisines.

o Ensure meals are varied and cater to the nutritional needs of students, while also being appealing and age-appropriate.

2. Team Management:

o Lead, supervise, and manage a team of cooks, helpers, and dishwashing staff in the kitchen and canteen.

o Allocate daily tasks to team members, ensuring smooth operations and efficient meal service.

o Train staff on kitchen operations, food safety standards, and proper hygiene practices.

3. Food Planning:

o Design and finalize monthly vegetarian menus for breakfast, lunch, and snacks, ensuring meals are balanced, nutritious, and cater to students' preferences.

o Incorporate seasonal vegetables and ingredients into the menu and focus on cost-effective meal planning.

o Address any specific dietary needs (such as vegetarian preferences, food allergies) in consultation with the school administration.

4. Inventory and Supply Management:

o Manage and maintain kitchen and canteen inventories, ensuring all vegetarian ingredients and provisions are adequately stocked.

o Handle procurement of fresh vegetables, grains, dairy products, and other vegetarian supplies from reliable vendors.

o Maintain accurate records of inventory levels and stock rotation to prevent waste.

5. Resource and Workforce Planning:

o Assess the staffing needs for the kitchen and canteen, ensuring adequate coverage during peak meal times (e.g., lunchtime, special events).

o Manage staff attendance, leaves, and schedules to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

6. Food Quality and Safety Assurance:

o Conduct daily quality checks on all food prepared, ensuring high standards of taste, appearance, and nutrition.

o Enforce strict food safety standards, including proper food handling, storage, and preparation, to ensure the safety and health of students.

o Ensure that all meals adhere to vegetarian guidelines and school policies.

7. Monitoring Food Distribution:

o Supervise the timely and organized distribution of meals to students, ensuring they are served in a hygienic and efficient manner.

o Ensure that meal portions are appropriate for the students' age groups and dietary needs.

8. Problem Solving and Issue Management:

o Address any issues or concerns related to food preparation, quality, or service in a timely and effective manner.

o Respond to feedback from students, teachers, and parents regarding the meals, and implement changes as needed.

9. Kitchen Hygiene and Maintenance:

o Ensure that the kitchen and canteen areas are maintained to the highest cleanliness and hygiene standards, following strict protocols.

o Oversee the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment, utensils, and food storage areas.

10. Student Engagement and Feedback:

Engage with students and staff to gather feedback on meals and adjust menus to meet student preferences and nutritional needs. Foster a positive and enjoyable mealtime experience, promoting healthy eating habits and good nutrition among students.
Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience in managing kitchen and canteen operations, specifically in a school environment, with a focus on vegetarian cooking. Strong knowledge and expertise in preparing South Indian and North Indian vegetarian dishes. Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to oversee and guide kitchen staff effectively. In-depth knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and nutrition standards. Ability to plan, organize, and manage kitchen operations efficiently, ensuring smooth service during meal times. Strong problem-solving and communication skills to address concerns and feedback from students, staff, and parents. Ability to adhere to school rules and provide meals in line with vegetarian dietary guidelines.
Preferred Experience:

Experience in a school or educational institution where vegetarian meals are the standard. Understanding of managing food allergies, special dietary requirements, and other health-related considerations. Experience with budgeting, cost control, and inventory management in a kitchen setting.

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
