Job Description

Junior Research Analyst: Make a Dent in the Universe Helping Our Clients Accelerate Health Research

  • 100% remote, forever. Travel & relocation friendly.
  • Work asynchronously, and have complete control over your schedule.
  • Minimal meeting culture.
  • Unlimited holidays, 3-week minimum.
  • Work collaboratively with all areas of our business.
  • Make a difference, and solve the biggest problem facing health researchers.
  • Work with world-renowned clients such as AstraZeneca, Bayer, Abbvie, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and many more.
Hello—we're Trialfacts, a remote entrepreneurial company, and without us, a lot of medical research would not be possible. We're searching for a Junior Research Analyst to help our team solve our clients' biggest problem. If you're looking for a position where you can set your own hours, take holidays as you see fit, work remotely from home or anywhere in the world, and help medical research succeed, then please read on.
Today's highly sophisticated medical system has added nearly 20 years of life expectancy, reduced infant mortality by 90% and maternal mortality by 99%. Polio, leprosy, smallpox, and tuberculosis are practically eradicated, even in the poorest countries in the world. More recently, medical researchers around the world have come together to create a variety of vaccines to combat COVID-19 and we helped by assisting Moderna COVID vaccine studies in the US. There's plenty of room for improvement, but advances in health that have been achieved over the past 20 years are due to new medications, medical devices and understanding developed through health research.

Our clients — academic researchers and medical research organizations, are working hard to continue to develop treatments and devices, increase our understanding, eradicate sickness and improve quality of life. Their biggest challenge is spending half of their time searching for and never being able to recruit enough of the participants required for their health research. Some of our clients include Bayer, Brown University, Duke University, Harvard, Johns Hopkins University, Joslin Diabetes Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital, Stanford University, the University of Oxford, the University of Sydney, the University of Melbourne, the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, and Yale.
Our company — Trialfacts, removes the biggest hurdle and frustration to conducting their research, by recruiting the participants they require for their health research, and many times thereby saving their research. We do this using our unique Recruitment Guaranteed method, a proven strategy that guarantees reliable recruitment within a realistic study budget. We believe that health research is crucial to the advancement and wellbeing of humanity and aim to positively impact 1 million people through participation in research, by 2030.

We're looking for someone who can:

Forecast — At Trialfacts we use data from previous studies to forecast how many volunteers will meet the eligibility criteria and sign up for a particular study. For example, a university researcher may need to enroll diabetics who are non-smokers for a research study in Melbourne, Australia. Using past Trialfacts data and filling in the gaps with online research, you would determine how many patients that met the eligibility criteria we could provide. This requires researching the prevalence of medical conditions (e.g. what percent of the population in Melbourne has diabetes? What proportion are non-smokers?), click-through-rates (e.g. what proportion of diabetics in Melbourne are likely to click on our Facebook ad) and sign-up rates (based on similar previous studies what, percentage of diabetics will complete the sign-up form?).
Analyze & Organize Data — Whether it's absorbing online medical research or analyzing data from past studies we have recruited for, you'll need to be at home with processes and systems to extract knowledge and insights we're looking for. You'll also be responsible for collating and effectively labelling data from past studies in order for us to easily refer back to in the future. Learn — No experience is necessary, but you'll need to rapidly develop your data analysis skills and gain a thorough understanding of various medical conditions. You'll be trained and work closely with our other Research Analysts, so you can hit the ground running, but you'll also need to be able to independently learn via courses and other resources that we'll pay for.

What's in it for you:

Autonomy — We don't have set working hours. We don't have a leave application process (you can take paid holidays whenever you want). We don't micromanage or babysit. You'll be accountable to the rest of the team purely on your results, and not on the number of hours spent working.
Our team is remote (we communicate via Slack (https://slack.com/), Basecamp (https://basecamp.com) and Zoom). We set our own hours based on what works for us and our clients. As long as you have a good internet connection you can work from wherever in the world you choose. Innovation — We're the first company in our industry to guarantee our results. We've launched innovative participant recruitment strategies (e.g. our phone screening appointment system (https://trialfacts.com/#advantages-5)) that provide predictability and certainty in a volatile industry, and we're constantly improving our service. It's our data-driven approach and continuous focus on innovative participant recruitment strategies that allows us to help our clients successfully reach their goals. Impact — Trialfacts plays an extremely important role in contributing to medical research and driving humanity forward. Our clients—researchers working at universities, pharmaceutical companies, biotech companies, natural medicine companies, hospitals and medical practices—work hard to develop treatments and technology that cure diseases and improve quality of life. Growth — As a member of a small but rapidly growing team you'll be given the opportunity to learn new skills and experiment in new areas, as well as progress and build on what you already know. You'll have access to courses and training programs of your choice, paid for by Trialfacts. Opportunity — As a small and innovative team we've done away with outdated corporate thinking like the physical office, micromanaging and bureaucratic leave processes, but we haven't thrown the baby out with the bathwater. We offer a flexible work environment, quarterly bonus (based on company performance), a personal and tailored development plan reviewed with you every three months, and continued opportunities for professional growth. We're growing rapidly and we're excited to have someone join the team that will be focusing exclusively on participant recruitment marketing, helping us to expand our footprint and meet our vision of positively impacting 1 million people through participation in research, by 2030. The future looks optimistic as we continue to improve and expand on our core service

Who are we anyway? Meet the team:

Nick Karrasch, CEO —I'm an Australian currently living in Melbourne, after spending the last 5 years in Canada. I started Trialfacts, and also previously founded a business and sales funnel automation consultancy. I have interests in medical research, entrepreneurship, learning, futurology, meditation and psychology. My weaknesses include craft beer, good coffee, trying to emulate ultra-successful entrepreneurs, and a nerdy love of hard sci-fi (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MohsScaleOfScienceFictionHardness) and rational fiction.
Melinda Gomez, Integrator — Melinda is responsible for overseeing all areas of the business and leading the sales team. With a background in sales, client services, and operations, she enjoys implementing new strategies and interacting with clients from around the globe. She is originally from Boston, Massachusetts but is currently enrolled in an MBA program in Lisbon, Portugal. She loves to travel, and during some of her favorite trips she has visited filming locations for Game of Thrones, snorkeled with manatees, and practiced flyboarding. Bernadette Galimba, Senior Research Analyst — As a part of the Due Diligence team, Bernadette analyzes clients' eligibility criteria, recruitment processes, and challenges to come up with pass rate estimates and guarantees that are backed-up by data from Trialfacts' experience and thorough research. Bernadette is living in the town of Los Banos in the province of Laguna, Philippines. She loves mountains, the sound of ocean waves, coffee, urban gardening, and reading crime thrillers. She dreams of retiring in a farm or a beach house where life is simple and surrounded by nature. Jeshee Tahil, Research Analyst — Jeshee is the newest addition to the Due Diligence team. She works hand-in-hand with Bernadette in analyzing the studies and providing robust supporting data. Jeshee is from Davao City, Philippines who graduated with a degree in Medical Laboratory Science. She joined Trialfacts in hopes of being able to apply her knowledge and aid in clinical trials. Sports and music are her sanctuaries outside work. Jeshee's dream is to travel the world and learn at least 7 different instruments.

This position is for you if you:

  • Are fastidious about fact-checking — You love to investigate and won't leave any stone unturned to find the information we are looking for. You're pedantic about sources and will never have any trouble backing up your findings.
  • Are analytical — You are someone who has no problem with interpreting large amounts of data. In fact, the more data, the better. You're excited to develop systems and processes to extract the knowledge we need from the data we have.
  • Have basic knowledge of statistics and probability — You understand what ‘statistically significant' means and how to calculate probability. You don't have to have a degree in statistics, but you must be willing to learn more about this topic.
  • Have great excel skills — Excel sheets are your friend. You love figuring out the right formula, or putting together a robust pivot table.
  • Are a critical thinker and problem solver — The answer may not always be straightforward and that doesn't bother you. You're able to think out of the box and draw meaningful conclusions from the resources at hand.
  • Are highly organized — You'll be helping the team researching multiple studies every week, each with their own set of unique criteria. If you're not highly organized and comfortable in a fast-paced environment then you're not a good-fit for this role.
  • Have a strong work ethic — We're a small and nimble but hard-working team.
  • Are flexible — in an entrepreneurial business we sometimes have to wear different hats. We're looking for someone that takes ownership and wants to help grow our company. If you're the kind of person who would rather sit back and say "that's not my responsibility" then we ask that you please don't apply.
  • Are results-driven — you will be coached and guided, but ultimately you will be responsible for meeting your KPIs.
  • Are looking for a full-time position — we're experiencing growth and we need someone who can fully commit to Trialfacts and get up to speed quickly. We're not looking for someone who has their own part-time business or freelancing career on the side.
