The Junior Production Engineer supports the production operations in an aluminium casting foundry by ensuring efficient workflow, maintaining quality standards, and assisting in process improvements. This role involves hands-on involvement in casting processes, equipment handling, and coordination with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Operations
Assist in daily production activities including mould preparation, melting, pouring, and finishing of aluminium castings.
Monitor and maintain production schedules to meet delivery timelines.
Ensure optimal utilization of resources (manpower, materials, machines).
Vendor follow-up
Basic Die design and maintenance
2. Process Monitoring & Control
Observe and record process parameters such as temperature, pressure, and cycle times.
Identify deviations and escalate issues to senior engineers or supervisors.
Support in implementing corrective actions to maintain process stability.
3. Quality Assurance
Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of cast components.
Assist in root cause analysis of defects like porosity, shrinkage, or surface irregularities.
Collaborate with the quality team to ensure compliance with ISO and customer standards.
4. Equipment & Tool Maintenance
Support preventive maintenance activities for furnaces, moulds, and casting equipment.
Report equipment malfunctions and assist in minor repairs or adjustments.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain production logs, inspection records, and shift reports.
Assist in preparing reports for production efficiency, rejection rates, and downtime analysis.
6. Safety & Compliance
Follow safety protocols related to molten metal handling and foundry operations.
Participate in safety audits and training programs.
Ensure adherence to environmental and workplace safety regulations.
7. Continuous Improvement
Suggest ideas for process optimisation and waste reduction.
Participate in Kaizen, 5S, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Production/Metallurgy Engineering.
3-5 years of experience in aluminium casting or foundry operations.
Basic understanding of casting techniques (gravity die, sand casting, etc.).
Familiarity with measuring instruments and quality tools.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
