The Junior Product Development Officer supports the end-to-end process of textile and product development -- from concept to bulk production. This role involves coordinating with design, sourcing, and production teams to ensure that new fabrics, trims, and finished textile products meet the company's quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
Key Responsibilities:1. Product & Fabric Development
Assist in developing new textile products, fabrics, and finishes based on seasonal concepts and market trends.
Support in the creation and tracking of fabric and trim samples, lab dips, and strike-offs.
Collaborate with mills and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of development samples.
Maintain fabric development records, technical specifications, and approvals.
2. Supplier Coordination
Communicate with local and overseas vendors to follow up on samples, quotations, and lead times.
Assist in evaluating supplier capabilities, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
Support sourcing efforts by collecting supplier data and fabric information sheets.
3. Quality & Technical Support
Work with the QA/QC team to test and evaluate fabric performance (e.g., colorfastness, shrinkage, hand feel).
Support color and material approval processes in coordination with design and merchandising teams.
Help identify and resolve technical issues during the sampling and pre-production stages.
4. Market & Trend Research
Conduct basic market research on new materials, trends, and innovations in textiles.
Assist the design and merchandising teams with seasonal trend presentations and fabric boards.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain product development trackers, costing sheets, and sample status reports.
Ensure all product information is accurately updated in PLM/ERP systems.
Prepare sample libraries and reference archives for future use.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, Fashion Design, or related field.
0-3 years of experience in textile or apparel product development.
Basic understanding of fabric types, weaving/knitting, dyeing, and finishing processes.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and basic knowledge of PLM or ERP systems preferred.
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
