Position Overview:
RWDI is seeking a Microclimate Engineer to join the team based in our Trivandrum office. In the Microclimate team, we study how our built environment impacts the local microclimate, and how we can ensure we design and build cities that are safe, comfortable and resilient. Environmental factors such as wind, sun, temperature and snow are considered when conducting these studies.
This is an entry to early-career level role that includes but is not limited to
Managing internal and external stakeholders to plan and coordinate all technical aspects of assigned projects, including the use of desk-based estimation tools, computational wind engineering, and/or wind tunnel testing.
Working under the guidance of senior staff with considerable latitude for exercising independent judgement.
Conducting fluid flow modelling, wind tunnel testing, data collection, analysis, post-processing, interpretation, and documentation of engineering results.
Writing technical project reports that present the methodology, results and recommendations.
Advising engineers and architects on wind-related design challenges and effectively communicating complex concepts to non-technical clients.
Ensuring technical quality and accuracy through appropriate QA/QC processes.
Please apply if you have:
A Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Environmental/Architectural, Aerospace, Mechanical, Structural/Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline.
An understanding of the fundamental physics of fluid flow and knowledge of wind engineering with an enthusiastic interest in aspects of building design related to microclimate issues and building science.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including experience preparing detailed technical reports.
Working understanding of architectural, structural and mechanical drawings.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment, managing multiple tasks and projects, and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated initiative, independent problem-solving methods/capabilities, exceptional coordination and consultation skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience:
Wind tunnel testing/CFD experience.
Familiarity with urban or atmospheric aerodynamics through industry or coursework.
Up to 2yrs experience in a fast-paced environmental consultancy or related field.
Advanced level Microsoft Excel capabilities.
Programming/scripting experience (Python, MATLAB, C#, VBA, C++).
Experience using CAD software packages.
Previous internship, industrial placement or other professional work experience.
