Position Title: Junior DFM (Design for Manufacturability) Engineer
Department: New Product Development-Mechanical
Location: Trichy
Key Responsibilities
1. Design for Manufacturability ReviewReview 3D models, drawings, and BOM for manufacturability issues.
Validate tolerance stack-up, GD&T, process feasibility, and assembly fit.
Recommend design improvements for machining, sheet metal, casting, forging, fabrication, and molding processes.
2. Feasibility & Process AssessmentConduct DFM and MFR analysis; provide structured feedback reports.
Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate feasibility, tooling requirements, and process capabilities.
Support APQP and PPAP documentation during project execution.
3. Cost OptimizationIdentify cost drivers and propose alternatives for cost reduction.
Work closely with KAM, Sourcing, and Quality teams to evaluate material choices and optimal process routes.
4. Collaboration & Cross-Functional SupportWork with Design Engineers to refine CAD models for production readiness.
Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineers (Sourcing, Execution & Quality) to validate process flows, tooling, and fixture requirements.
Participate in NPI reviews, PFMEA sessions, prototype builds, and design validation activities.
5. Documentation & StandardsPrepare DFM and MFR reports, feasibility studies, and risk assessments.
Maintain design guidelines, best practices, and manufacturability checklists.
Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes: machining, welding, stamping, casting, forging, fabrication, and injection molding.
Expertise in GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering drawing standards.
Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks and AutoCAD).
Understanding of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and overall NPI processes.
Soft Skills
Strong communication and supplier interaction skills.
Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
1-3 years of experience in DFM, NPD, or Manufacturing Engineering roles.
Experience in supplier development is an added advantage.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Closure of DFM issues before tooling release.
Cost reduction achieved through design improvements.
On-time supplier feasibility sign-off.
* Reduced failures in prototype builds and initial production runs.
