is responsible for performing routine tests on feed samples to ensure quality and safety standards are met. This role typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field and involves hands-on laboratory work under supervision. Key Responsibilities
Sample Handling and Analysis:
Collect, prepare, and analyze raw materials and finished feed products using established procedures.
Routine Testing:
Conduct basic nutritional (proximate) analyses, including determining moisture, crude protein (using the Kjeldahl method), crude fat (Soxhlet extraction), crude fiber, and ash content.
Instrument Operation:
Operate and perform routine maintenance and calibration on laboratory equipment such as pH meters, balances, muffle furnaces, drying ovens, spectrometers, and possibly more advanced instruments like HPLCs or GCs under guidance.
Documentation and Reporting:
Accurately record all test results, observations, and procedures in lab notebooks or a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and prepare detailed reports for the quality control (QC) and production teams.
Quality Control and Safety:
Adhere strictly to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment and accurate, reliable results.
Troubleshooting:
Assist senior staff in identifying and resolving quality issues or equipment malfunctions.
Inventory Management:
Monitor and maintain inventory levels of chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies.
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Animal Science, Food Science, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
Technical Skills:
Basic knowledge of chemical analysis techniques, sample preparation, and familiarity with laboratory instruments.
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and precision.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication (written and verbal) and teamwork abilities.
