To conceptualise, design, and develop original, market-aligned handmade carpet collections that reflect buyer requirements, emerging trends, and RMC's creative standards -- ensuring each design is technically feasible, cost-effective, and production-ready.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Design Development
Interpret design briefs shared by Merchandising (including size, color, theme and quality).
Research design inspirations, global trends, and material applications relevant to buyer markets.
Create theme boards, concept sketches, and design proposals for internal and buyer review.
Develop final design layouts using CAD or manual sketching aligned with production feasibility.
Prepare and finalize complete
Design Spec Packs
with color charts, yarn details, texture and finish notes.
B. Sampling Coordination
Collaborate with R&D/Sampling teams for prototype development and first trials.
Review physical samples to ensure design fidelity in color, proportion and texture.
Recommend and record design corrections or improvements as needed before final approval.
C. Collaboration & Communication
Coordinate with Merchandising for design intent, timelines and buyer-specific aesthetics.
Liaise with CAD, QA, and Production teams to resolve design feasibility or clarity issues.
Participate in internal design reviews and collection planning sessions.
D. Documentation & Archiving
Maintain a comprehensive archive of all approved and rejected designs, including CAD files, color references and sample photos.
Ensure updates to the
Monthly Content & Material Update
records.
Follow systematic file naming and storage conventions for design traceability.
3. Skills & Competencies
Strong aesthetic and technical understanding of handmade carpets and textile design.
Proficiency in CAD/design tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, NedGraphics, or equivalent).
In-depth knowledge of weaving techniques (hand-knotted, tufted, loom-based, flatweave).
Awareness of international market design preferences (USA, Europe, Canada).
Excellent collaboration, communication and visualization abilities.
4. Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's/Diploma Degree in Textile Design, Fine Arts, Fashion, or related discipline.
2-5 years of relevant experience in handmade carpet or home furnishing design.
Proven portfolio of carpet/rug design work demonstrating creativity and execution capability.
