Research and investigation:

Uncover and research newsworthy topics, facts, and story leads.

Reporting and writing:

Write clear, concise, and compelling news stories, articles, and features for print, digital, or broadcast media.

Interviews:

Find and interview sources, witnesses, and key individuals to gather information and perspectives.

Fact-checking and verification:

Ensure all information, facts, and data are accurate and reliable before publication.

Editing:

Review and edit copy to ensure it meets high journalistic standards, is free of errors, and adheres to ethical guidelines.

Collaboration:

Work with editors, photographers, designers, and other journalists to produce content.

Event coverage:

Attend press conferences, events, and other assignments to gather first-hand information.

Deadline management:

Meet all assigned and recurring deadlines for story submission.

Ethics and standards:

Uphold professional journalistic ethics and codes of conduct.

Multimedia skills:

May include taking photos, recording video, or creating other multimedia content to supplement stories.
Requirements

Education:

Typically a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field.

Skills:

Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. Strong research and analytical abilities. Proficiency in fact-checking and verifying information. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Strong news judgment and an eye for detail. Organizational and multitasking skills. Networking and interviewing skills.

Experience:

Experience in writing and editing news stories is often required.

Portfolio:

A portfolio of published work is often preferred.
