To operate, maintain, and monitor all low-temperature refrigeration systems used in ice-cream manufacturing and storage, ensuring continuous operation of hardening tunnels, blast freezers, and cold rooms at required temperatures.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Operation & Temperature Control
Operate ammonia/freon-based refrigeration systems for hardening tunnels, blast freezers, deep freezers, and frozen storage rooms.
Ensure
critical temperature maintenance
:
Hardening tunnel:
-35C to -40C
Blast freezer:
-30C to -35C
Deep freezer storage:
-20C to -25C
Monitor and record evaporator pressure, suction/discharge pressure, temperature logs, and compressor parameters.
B. Equipment Operation
Operate compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling towers, IBT (if used), brine/glycol circulation systems.
Perform defrost cycles for evaporators as per schedule.
Drain water, check oil levels, clean strainers, and maintain condenser performance.
C. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Carry out routine preventive maintenance for refrigeration equipment.
Identify leakages (ammonia/freon), unusual noise, high pressure, low suction, or temperature deviations.
Attend minor issues and support maintenance team during major breakdowns.
Ensure smooth functioning of brine/glycol pumps used for deep freezing.
D. Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety protocols for low-temperature operations and ammonia handling.
Use appropriate PPE such as gloves, goggles, jackets, and respiratory protection where required.
Support emergency procedures during leaks, alarm triggers, and equipment shutdown.
Maintain GMP, hygiene, and FSSAI compliance in all refrigerated areas.
E. Documentation & Coordination
Maintain shift logbook, compressor readings, freezer temperature records, and maintenance notes.
Provide shift handover with clear status of all running systems.
Coordinate with Production, QA, and Dispatch teams for freezing requirements and product movement.
Record and report deviations such as temperature rise, equipment trips, leakage, or abnormal conditions.
3. Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of
industrial low-temperature refrigeration
.
Ability to work under extremely cold conditions for specific durations.
Knowledge of control panels, PLC systems (desirable).
Basic mechanical & electrical troubleshooting skills.
Alertness, safety orientation, and good communication skills.
4. Qualification & Experience
ITI - Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (RAC)
/ Diploma in Mechanical or Refrigeration.
2-6 years
experience in ice-cream / frozen foods / low-temperature industrial refrigeration.
Experience with ammonia systems, hardening tunnels, and blast freezers preferred.
5. Work Schedule
Rotational shifts (24x7 frozen plant operations).
Should be available for emergency calls.
