The Projectionist is responsible for ensuring smooth, high-quality movie playback across all cinema screens. This role involves operating and maintaining digital projection equipment, sound systems, and server operations while ensuring show schedules run accurately and without interruption.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Projection Operations
Operate digital projectors (Barco / Christie / Sony or equivalent).
Ensure correct playlist creation, scheduling, and automation setup for all shows.
Monitor picture quality, brightness, focus, and sound levels.
Load KDMs, ingest movie content, trailers, and advertisements into the TMS/LMS.
Check show start and end timings to ensure zero delays.
B. Technical Maintenance
Perform routine checks on projection room equipment.
Clean filters, lenses, and ensure dust-free projector environment.
Coordinate with OEM engineers for preventive and breakdown maintenance.
Identify and report any hardware or software issues immediately.
C. Quality Control
Conduct daily screen checks before the first show.
Ensure audio calibration and screen brightness meet standards.
Report any issues like dim light, audio imbalance, masking issues, or interruptions.
D. Safety & Compliance
Maintain projection booth safety standards as per cinema guidelines.
Follow SOP for handling high-voltage equipment.
Keep projection booth logs, maintenance records, and show reports updated.
E. Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with the Duty Officer for show status and screen readiness.
Work closely with F&B, Housekeeping, and Floor teams for smooth cinema operations.
Update management about upcoming releases, downtime, or equipment needs.
3. Skills & QualificationsEssential:
Minimum 1-3 years experience as Projectionist / Technical Operator in cinemas.
Knowledge of DCI standards, TMS operation, and movie ingest processes.
Understanding of sound systems: Dolby, DTS, Atmos (if applicable).
Basic electrical and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred:
Experience with multiple screen formats (2D, 3D, 4DX, Dolby Atmos, Laser projectors).
Certification from any OEM projection training program.
