: Engineer II - Avionics System Integration
.
We are seeking an Engineer II - Avionics System Integration to independently design, integrate, and validate the avionics stack of our UAV platforms.
Key Responsibilities
System Architecture
o
Define and own the avionics system architecture, including flight controller, GPS/IMU, telemetry, RF links, and power distribution.
Component Selection
o
Select avionics components (Pixhawk-class or custom FC, dual GPS with RTK, low-drift IMUs, telemetry radios, ESCs) compliant with defence requirements.
Integration
o
Design wiring harnesses with EMI/EMC segregation (HV, LV, and signal).
o
Implement redundancy strategies (dual GPS, dual IMU, link failover).
o
Map avionics placement in CAD with vibration isolation and thermal clearance.
Power Management
o
Define the avionics power budget and voltage regulation strategy.
o
Ensure safe interfaces between avionics, propulsion, and payload systems.
Validation & Testing
o
Develop and execute bench and HIL testing protocols.
o
Validate avionics performance through EMI/EMC testing, ground integration, and flight trials.
Documentation
o
Generate wiring diagrams, ICDs (Interface Control Documents), and avionics configuration manuals.
o
Maintain version control and configuration traceability.
Compliance
o
Ensure avionics meet aerospace safety, cyber-security, and defence compliance standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DO-160).
Collaboration
o
Work closely with structural, aero, and propulsion engineers to achieve seamless integration.
o
Liaise with suppliers for procurement, qualification, and troubleshooting.
Qualifications
Bachelor's/Master's in Avionics, Electronics, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
6-10 years of hands-on avionics integration experience in UAVs, aircraft, or defence systems.
Proven expertise in:
o
Flight control systems (PX4, Ardupilot, or custom stacks).
o
RTK GNSS, INS/IMUs, telemetry radios, RF datalinks.
o
Wiring harness design, EMI/EMC mitigation, redundancy planning, and power management.
Strong hands-on experience with bench/HIL setups, troubleshooting, and field integration for flight tests.
Familiarity with aerospace gated processes (PDR, CDR, TRR) and documentation standards.
Software & Tool Proficiency
CAD/Electrical Design: CATIA V5 / 3DEXPERIENCE, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical (for harness and placement).
Flight Control & Simulation: QGroundControl, Mission Planner, PX4/Ardupilot SITL, Gazebo, AirSim, MATLAB/Simulink.
Test & Analysis: LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python for log analysis; familiarity with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and CAN analyzers.
Power Analysis: LTspice, PLECS or equivalent for power budget validation.
Preferred Background / Reference Companies
Experience at Collins Aerospace, Honeywell, VTOL Aviation India, HAL, DRDO avionics labs, TASL, UAV startups with avionics focus.
Preferred Attributes
Systems thinker with a fail-safe and redundancy mindset.
Hands-on bench-testing and troubleshooting ability.
Ability to work in fast-paced R&D with defence-level rigour.
Commitment to indigenous sourcing and eliminating Chinese-origin avionics.
