Team Summary The Backup, Unix & Storage Ops team is 8:00 to 18:00 (UK hours)
The analysts are supposed to be specialist in Storage
(NetApp & Brocade) Backup (CommVault), and preferably some knowledge
in Unix (Solaris) The analyst would be responsible for day-to-day Support for
the Storage environment, and configuration of backup systems
Role Summary The purpose of this role is to ensure that our Customer's Backup & Storage
systems are correctly configured to meet the requirements of a constantly
changing IT environment.
You will be responsible for all Storage and Backup Systems related queries
and requests along with your region-based counterpart. You will also be
heavily involved in future Storage Backup Systems enhancement projects.
Detailed Activities Include:
Storage: To support and manage Netapp storage environment. The ideal
candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of NetApp
storage systems, including provisioning, maintenance, monitoring, and
optimization of storage resources across SAN and NAS infrastructures.
Create and manage storage aggregates and volumes on NetApp
systems.
Demonstrate working knowledge of storage protocols including
NFS, CIFS, iSCSI, and FCP.
Perform ONTAP administration, including system monitoring,
performance tuning, and firmware upgrades.
Schedule and manage snapshots for data protection and recovery.
Establish and monitor SnapMirror relationships for data
replication and disaster recovery.
Provision and manage LUNs, including LUN expansion and
mapping for connected servers.
Possess strong understanding of SAN (Storage Area Network) and
NAS (Network Attached Storage) technologies.
Execute storage reclamation from decommissioned hosts and
servers to optimize resource utilization.
Backup (Commvault) Responsible for managing Commvault backups,
including issue resolution, tape restores, and backup configurations for
server lifecycle events. Supports backup-to-disk projects, analyzes
recurring failures, communicates system changes, and leverages SAN
expertise to optimize performance while assisting with server-level issues to
ensure data integrity and availability
Troubleshoot and fix any backup systems related issue(s) in
conjunction with Systems team and external vendor(s).
Act as a backup for arranging restore of data from tapes and
complete backup requests.
Project activity regarding the implementation of backup to disk
Back-up configuration due to commissioning / de-commissioning
of live servers
Problem resolution - troubleshoot frequently failing back-ups
Change communication to your team leader and colleagues
regarding changes made to relevant systems and the potential
impact of these changes on the work of Backup Operations
Knowledge on SAN technologies.
Troubleshooting boot issues and other server related issues
Experience
It is envisaged that this role will require in-depth knowledge of both Backup
and Storage in an IT operational environment.
To perform this role you will have had at least 4 years experience in a Storage
and / or Backup administration expertise. In particular you will have spent a
significant period of this time within a single role and you will have current
work experience in IT Systems Management.
You will identify yourself as a Systems professional and demonstrate a
sound understanding of the principles of Systems Management, Monitoring,
Backup, Storage and their application to an organisation.
You will ideally have experience in providing support to a global client from
a remote central location and will be used to dealing with customers from
varying backgrounds.
Your approach to work will require a good attention to detail and you will take
pride in your work as a Systems professional. You will also be able to
demonstrate commitment to your work and flexibility in dealing with
unforeseen operational requirements.
You will have the ability to quickly adapt to new Systems and Business rules
or standards which will affect your work.
You will be detail and task orientated with the ability to work as part of a team
and quickly establish credibility with colleagues.
You will have excellent communication skills, and able to work effectively
with both local and remote team members.

In addition the ability to perform Windows Scripting and Active
Directory Authentication in the above systems
Familiarity with ONTAP operating system and NetApp tools such as
OnCommand System Manager or Active IQ Unified Manager and
Brocade Network Advisor
Good understanding of enterprise backup and recovery processes.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team
oriented environment.
