Operations Effectiveness (ITSEF) Unit delivers data and knowledge solutions that provide business insights to frontline teams and management for improved decision making, transparency, and risk mitigation, while facilitating knowledge capture, curation, and dissemination.
The World Bank is seeking a Software Engineer to join its Information Technology Solutions (ITS) department, in Chennai, India. This experienced professional will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining internal IT applications across a range of technologies. Operating with limited supervision, the Software Engineer I will evaluate user needs and build organization-specific software solutions that enhance internal operations. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams in an agile environment and contributes to continuous improvement and innovation. Candidates should bring strong technical expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), programming, DevOps practices, and systems design, along with the ability to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions aligned with World Bank's mission and values.
Role Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements and enhance system performance.

• Evaluate user needs and build organization-specific applications and systems to improve internal operations.

• Participate in system integration efforts, ensuring seamless deployment of software components into production environments.

• Monitor system performance and scalability, troubleshooting issues as they arise.

• Adhere to security and compliance standards throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile environment, contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.

• Analyze and interpret business requirements to define and develop technical specifications.

• Apply best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing, documentation, and DevOps processes.

• Lead and coordinate work among onsite and offshore developers, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.

• Develop and implement solutions using Microsoft Dynamics, Azure resources, and .NET technologies.

• Extend functionalities in Microsoft Dynamics through custom development using .NET/C#.

• Integrate Microsoft Dynamics with SharePoint Online, Azure services, and on-prem systems.

• Authenticate and authorize applications using Azure AD, including B2B and B2E scenarios.

• Maintain development standards including version control (TFS), logging, and monitoring (Splunk, AppInsights).

• Contribute to continuous improvement by evaluating and integrating new technologies.

• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to team members.

• Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, and stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure successful delivery.

• Establish systems to monitor and improve operating efficiency of existing applications.

• Participate in setting and implementing IT processes, guidelines, and policies that support strategic and business goals.

Selection Criteria

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.

• Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale enterprise applications using Microsoft .NET Framework, including C#.

• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics, including architecture, customization, and integration with SharePoint Online, Azure services, and on-premises systems.

• Proficiency in developing and deploying solutions using Azure services such as Web Apps, Functions, Key Vault, and App Insights.

• Experience with authentication and authorization using Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), including B2B and B2E scenarios.

• Solid programming skills in ASP.NET/C#, AngularJS, HTML, CSS, and RESTful APIs.

• Familiarity with DevOps practices, including version control (TFS), CI/CD pipelines, logging, and monitoring tools such as Splunk and App Insights.

• Experience coordinating and working with distributed development teams (onsite and offshore).

• Knowledge of systems administration and cloud infrastructure is a plus.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and scalable solutions.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and organizational boundaries.

• Ability to take ownership and accountability for delivering high-quality results in a timely manner.

• Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

• Understanding of emerging AI trends and the ability to integrate AI capabilities into software solutions will be considered a strong asset.

• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate, Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Developer, or SAFe Agile Software Engineering (ASE) are highly desirable.
