An inventory assistant is responsible for managing and maintaining a company's stock, which includes tracking inventory levels, updating records, and performing counts. Key duties involve receiving and organizing incoming shipments, reconciling discrepancies, preparing reports, and ensuring that inventory is stored efficiently and accurately. This role often requires data entry, using inventory software, and physically handling stock in a warehouse setting.
Core responsibilities
Inventory tracking and record-keeping: Maintaining and updating inventory records, tracking stock movement, and ensuring accuracy through regular counts and audits.
Receiving and organizing stock: Checking in new supplies, materials, or products for accuracy against purchase orders, labeling items, and placing them in designated storage areas.
Discrepancy resolution: Investigating and resolving any discrepancies found between physical stock and system records.
Reporting: Preparing inventory reports, including lists of depleted or damaged products, for management.
Order placement: Placing orders for new stock as needed based on depleted products.
Warehouse maintenance: Keeping storage areas neat, organized, and efficient. Required skills and qualifications
Organizational skills: Strong ability to organize and manage multiple tasks, especially in a warehouse environment.
Attention to detail: Crucial for accurate data entry, record-keeping, and discrepancy resolution.
Computer proficiency: Experience with inventory management software and Microsoft Excel is often required.
Physical ability: The ability to perform physical tasks like lifting, standing for long periods, bending, and working in a warehouse or sometimes outdoors is frequently necessary.
Experience: Prior experience in inventory, warehousing, or a related field is often preferred. A high school diploma is typically required, with a bachelor's degree being a plus.
