Evaluate and diagnose cardiovascular diseases through patient history, physical exams, and diagnostic tests.
Procedural:
Perform minimally invasive procedures such as angioplasty, stent placement, heart catheterization, and repair of heart defects using catheters.
Emergency Response:
Handle emergency cardiac catheterizations and interventions, especially for patients experiencing a heart attack (STEMI).
Patient Management:
Manage the overall care of cardiac patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings, including prescribing medication and adjusting treatment plans.
Collaboration:
Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and other specialists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Patient Education:
Educate patients and their families on lifestyle changes to improve cardiovascular health.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate and thorough patient records.
Research:
Participate in research to improve cardiac treatments, outcomes, and preventative measures.
Essential skills and qualifications
Medical degree and a license to practice medicine.
Completion of a residency in internal medicine, a fellowship in general cardiology, and an additional fellowship in interventional cardiology.
Expertise in performing a wide range of interventional cardiology procedures.
Strong diagnostic and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure, especially during emergencies.
Flexibility and adaptability to handle demanding hours.
Physical endurance, as long hours of standing are often required.
