Job Description


The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking an Intern, Innovative Finance, to support on the research, identification and (preliminary) design of innovative financing solutions for nutrition under GAIN\xe2\x80\x99s Nourishing Food Pathways programme.

This internship position can be based in either the GAIN Netherlands, Utrecht or India Office, New Delhi and is offered on a 6 months\xe2\x80\x99 fixed-term contract basis. Candidates will ideally be available to start by April 2023.

About GAIN

GAIN is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN\xe2\x80\x99s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving the consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially those most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the role

Nourishing Food Pathways (NFP) is a multi-donor-funded, five-year program implemented by GAIN, including work at the global level and across all its country offices.

The goal of NFP is to strengthen and support the implementation of country food system pathways (i.e., strategies for improving the functioning of local food systems) so they can accelerate improvements in the consumption of safe nutritious food for all, especially the most vulnerable, produced in a sustainable way. The main focus of the program is at the policy level, as opposed to implementation of on-the ground interventions.

Under the Nourishing Food Pathways (NFP), GAIN is exploring opportunities in innovative financing solutions to scale nutrition impact.

Reporting to the Innovative Finance Lead, the intern will work as part of the Innovative Finance team to explore innovative finance solutions to stimulate more financing towards nutrition. The intern will work under the general supervision of the Innovative Finance Lead, working closely with other members of the team and supporting the day-to-day activities of the programme.

Role specifics include;

  • Working closely with the Innovative Finance team in understanding private sector interest in nutrition investing and analysing what solutions can stimulate investors to direct more financing towards nutrition.
  • Supporting in the identification and design of innovative finance solutions for nutrition, such as Green, Social and Sustainability Bonds, Outcomes-based finance and Carbon Finance.
  • Assisting the Innovative Finance team in creating a value proposition on innovative finance for GAIN, to be finalized in an externally facing pitch deck.
  • Supporting in the preparation of documents and presentations for external and internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting in organizing national and international events, technical meetings, and workshops
  • Maintaining up-to-date market knowledge/intelligence and in-depth mappings on the innovative finance and impact investing landscape and share the same within the GAIN team and more broadly, including identifying key partners to influence and support in communication pieces (blogs, reports, articles).
About you

The ideal candidate should have exposure to impact investing, sustainable finance or food systems investing studies.

You will possess strong IT, communications, research, writing and analytical skills. Candidates\xe2\x80\x99 with Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree, or currently pursuing a Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in a relevant field such as sustainable finance, international business, sustainable investing, economics, or other relevant field is preferable. Exposure to a multi-cultural international environment would be an additional advantage.

In addition to this, you will demonstrate an understanding of and passion for impact investing and innovative finance with a keen interest in nutrition, food systems or agriculture.

About our offer

The remuneration for this internship is as follows:
  • Netherlands, Utrecht \xe2\x80\x93 Up to 586 Euros per month, on a 100% full-time working basis
  • India, New Delhi \xe2\x80\x93 Up to 15,000 INR per month, on a 100% full-time working basis
