The ICU Medical Officer is responsible for providing round-the-clock medical care to critically ill patients, monitoring their clinical status, coordinating with consultants, and ensuring adherence to ICU protocols and patient safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide continuous medical care to critically ill patients in ICU.
Perform initial assessment, daily rounds, and documentation of patient progress.
Monitor vital parameters, ventilator settings, ABG reports, and laboratory results.
Initiate and modify treatment plans as per consultant instructions.
Manage emergencies such as cardiac arrest, shock, sepsis, respiratory failure, etc.
Perform and assist in ICU procedures including intubation, central line insertion, arterial line, ABG sampling, and CPR.
Ensure proper handover during shift changes.
Communicate patient condition and treatment updates to consultants and patient relatives (as permitted).
Supervise ICU nursing staff and ensure compliance with clinical protocols.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation in medical records.
Follow infection control, NABH, and hospital policies.
Participate in clinical audits, mortality meetings, and quality improvement activities.
Ensure proper utilization of ICU equipment and report malfunctions.
