We are seeking a highly skilled Insurance Specialist with expertise in
Marine Insurance and Cargo Insurance
to manage and oversee insurance processes for our import-export operations. The ideal candidate will ensure comprehensive coverage, manage claims efficiently, mitigate risk, and liaise with insurers, brokers, and internal teams to safeguard international shipments and logistics.
Key Responsibilities
Assess and arrange Marine Cargo Insurance policies for international and domestic shipments, ensuring adequate coverage for goods in transit (by sea, air, and land).
Handle end-to-end insurance documentation including policy issuance, endorsements, declarations, renewals, and claims processing.
Liaise with insurance companies, brokers, surveyors, and logistics providers to negotiate competitive premiums and ensure smooth claims settlements.
Analyse shipment risks and recommend optimal insurance solutions to minimize exposure to losses.
Track and monitor insurance coverage status for all consignments, ensuring timely renewals and compliance with legal and contractual obligations.
Coordinate and manage cargo claims, including damage, loss, or liability incidents -- compiling necessary documents (BLs, invoices, packing lists, surveys, etc.), and ensuring timely and fair claim resolutions
. o Maintain updated knowledge of marine insurance laws, regulations, and international trade guidelines (Incoterms, customs rules, etc.).
Support internal teams (logistics, procurement, exports) by providing insights on insurance coverage and risk management strategies.
Prepare regular reports on insurance claims status, policy effectiveness, premium costs, and risk exposures for management review.
Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines pertaining to marine and cargo insurance.
Key Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Insurance, Logistics, International Trade, or a related field.
Minimum 4 years of experience in Marine and Cargo Insurance, preferably in the Import-Export industry.
Strong knowledge of marine cargo policy terms, conditions, claim procedures, and risk assessment.
Familiarity with international trade practices, Incoterms, shipping documentation, and insurance-related legalities.
Proven experience in negotiating with insurers and handling cargo insurance claims efficiently.
Excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Strong organizational and documentation management abilities.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and insurance-related systems/tools.
Preferred
Experience in handling insurance for agro commodities or bulk cargo (e.g., rice, grains) is an added advantage.
Certification in Insurance (e.g., Licentiate/Associate/Fellow from Insurance Institute of India) will be preferred.
