ABOUT THE ROLE

This role within the Swiss Re Institute\'s Group Economic Research and Strategy (SRI GERS) is a phenomenal opportunity for you to work on hands-on projects with a tangible business impact. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect, curate and analyze large data sets to support research projects. These projects may be related to quantifying and modelling the impact of economic risks, climate change, energy prices, health care reform, mortality, etc. on insurance and reinsurance industry.
  • Strong data affinity and statistical analysis skills are essential. Hands-on experience with a statistical software package and/or a programming language is must.
  • Should be very comfortable working on and extracting relevant data and research reports from Bloomberg, Factiva, Thomson Reuters, Eikon, etc.
  • Contribute to Swiss Re\'s thought-leadership publications (e.g. sigma, expertise publications, economic insights, etc) by writing pieces or providing ad-hoc support. Ad-hoc projects and activities, including (but not limited to) industry /segment analysis where Swiss Re has business interests. Most activities involve collaboration across teams.
  • Prepare high-quality and visually appealing presentations and articulate it clearly. Breakdown, communicate and visualize often complex concepts in an easy and digestible way.
  • Carry out assigned responsibilities with minimal direct supervision.
  • Support Group Chief Economist, Head of Insurance Market and the Line Manager in India on global research projects in collaboration with Swiss Re Institute global hubs as well as different internal/external partners.
ABOUT YOU
  • An advanced degree in the field of economics, statistics, finance, computer science or insurance with minimum two years of industry experience in econometric analysis, financial analysis, quantitative modelling, economic research and/or business consulting. Insurance experience and industry certifications would be an added advantage.
  • Intermediate to advanced econometric and programming skills in one or more of the major operating system/statistical software/programming languages such as Unix/Linux OS, R, Python, Stata, Matlab, EViews, VBA, Java is a must.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Knowledge of advanced excel (VBA, excel macros) and databases (MS Access, SQL and 4GLs) preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality and accuracy of data and data analytics.
  • Hands on experience on tools/databases like Bloomberg, AM Best, Datastream, CEIC, Factiva, Capital IQ, Power BI, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience in writing reports on industry and/or macroeconomic topics.
  • Comfortable understanding and analysing the financial statements of companies. Familiarity with insurance financial statements is preferred but not compulsory.
  • Collaboration and communication skills. Excellent command over written and oral English. Curiosity in continuous development and learning.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think strategically and deliver high quality results

Group Economic Research and Strategy (GERS) is part of the Swiss Re Institute and is responsible for analysing and forecasting the global macroeconomic and insurance market environment. The team holds a crucial role in steering Swiss Re\'s capital allocation for both sides of the balance sheet. The team also drives thought leadership on topics of strategic importance for the Group and helps shaping the policy dialogue and outcome. GERS is responsible for Swiss Re\'s flagship sigma publication series.

GERS is highly visible and interacts with a wide variety of key partners and decision makers across the organization and externally. We are a truly global team located in Zurich, New York, Bangalore, Hong Kong and Beijing and collaborate closely with all of Swiss Re\'s re/insurance business units and Group functions.
