Project Role Description :

Provide ongoing technical support and maintenance of production and development systems and software products (both remote and onsite) and for configured services running on various platforms (operating within a defined operating model and processes). Provide hardware/software support and implement technology at the operating system-level across all server and network areas, and for particular software solutions/vendors/brands. Work includes L1 and L2/ basic and intermediate level troubleshooting.

Role Overview: We are looking for a seasoned Backup Administrator / Lead with 12+ years of experience in enterprise backup and recovery solutions, specifically across Cohesity, Dell PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM), and IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM) environments. The ideal candidate will not only possess deep technical expertise but also demonstrate strong leadership, team management, and process ownership capabilities. The role involves leading a team of 20+ backup engineers, overseeing daily operations, ensuring SLA adherence, and driving service improvements across global infrastructure landscapes. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities: Technical Responsibilities: o Backup Operations & Administration: o Manage, monitor, and maintain enterprise backup systems using Cohesity, Dell PPDM, and IBM TSM. o Ensure successful completion of scheduled backup and restore jobs across physical, virtual, and cloud environments. o Perform data restores, recoveries, and replication activities as per defined SLAs. o Architecture & Optimization: o Design and implement scalable backup architectures aligned with RTO/RPO objectives. o Review existing backup infrastructure and recommend improvements in performance, storage utilization, and automation. o Evaluate new technologies and drive modernization initiatives within the backup domain. o Incident & Problem Management: o Lead root cause analysis for backup-related incidents and ensure preventive actions are implemented. o Coordinate with OEM/vendor support for critical escalations. o Automation & Reporting: o Develop automation scripts (PowerShell, Python, or Shell) for routine operational tasks and reports. o Maintain dashboards and performance reports for backup health, capacity, and SLA compliance. o Security & Compliance: o Ensure adherence to data protection policies, encryption standards, and retention requirements. o Participate in internal and external audits; maintain accurate configuration and procedural documentation. ________________________________________ Functional & Leadership Responsibilities: o Team Management: o Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 20+ backup administrators across shifts or regions. o Allocate workload, set priorities, and ensure efficient operational coverage across environments. o Performance Management: o Conduct periodic performance evaluations, identify skill gaps, and create development plans for team members. o Drive certification initiatives and continuous learning programs within the team. o Process & Service Delivery: o Own and monitor SLA/KPI metrics related to backup success rates, restore performance, and incident response. o Implement ITIL best practices for incident, change, and problem management. o Drive automation, documentation, and standardization initiatives to improve operational efficiency. o Stakeholder Communication: o Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Storage, Cloud, Security, Infrastructure). o Act as a single point of contact (SPOC) for backup-related escalations and service reviews. o Present monthly/quarterly service reports and improvement plans to management and clients. o Project & Transition Management: o Participate in infrastructure transformation projects, migrations, and onboarding of new clients or environments. o Ensure smooth transitions through knowledge transfer, SOP creation, and team readiness. ________________________________________ Required Skills & Experience: o Minimum 12 years of experience in enterprise backup administration, with at least 3+ years in a team leadership or lead role. o Hands-on experience with: o Cohesity (cluster management, replication, policies, disaster recovery). o Dell PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM) or legacy Avamar/NetWorker environments. o IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM) including policy domains, scheduling, and tape library integration. o Strong understanding of: o Windows/Linux OS, VMware, SAN/NAS storage, and cloud backup solutions (AWS/Azure). o Backup performance tuning, encryption, deduplication, and data lifecycle management. o Experience in automation scripting (PowerShell, Python, Shell). o Proven experience in SLA management, reporting, and client interfacing. ________________________________________ Soft Skills & Attributes: o Excellent leadership and mentoring capabilities. o Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. o Effective verbal and written communication across all organizational levels. o Ability to perform under pressure in large-scale, critical production environments. ________________________________________ Preferred Qualifications: o Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field. o Certifications (preferred but not mandatory): o Cohesity Certified Engineer (CCE) o Dell PowerProtect Specialist o IBM Certified Administrator - Spectrum Protect o ITIL v4 Foundation Roles & Responsibilities: - Expected to be an SME. - Collaborate and manage the team to perform. - Responsible for team decisions. - Engage with multiple teams and contribute on key decisions. - Provide solutions to problems for their immediate team and across multiple teams. - Facilitate training sessions for junior team members to enhance their technical skills. - Monitor system performance and proactively identify areas for improvement. Professional & Technical Skills: - Must To Have Skills: Proficiency in Backup and Recovery Systems. - Strong understanding of server and network infrastructure. - Experience with troubleshooting hardware and software issues. - Familiarity with various operating systems and their configurations. - Ability to implement and maintain backup solutions effectively. Additional Information: - The candidate should have minimum 7.5 years of experience in Backup and Recovery Systems. - This position is based at our Bengaluru office. - A 15 years full time education is required.
