Job Summary
The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating infection prevention and control measures to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The role requires active surveillance, data analysis, staff education, outbreak management, and compliance with national and international infection control guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Surveillance & Monitoring
Conduct routine and targeted surveillance of HAIs in accordance with facility policy and national guidelines.
Collect, analyze, and interpret infection data to identify trends and outbreaks.
Monitor antimicrobial usage and resistance patterns.
Policy & Compliance
Develop, implement, and review infection control policies and standard operating procedures.
Ensure compliance with national (e.g., CDC/NCDC) and international (e.g., WHO, ICN) infection prevention protocols.
Participate in audits and inspections by regulatory bodies and accreditation agencies.
Education & Training
Educate and train healthcare staff on infection control practices (e.g., hand hygiene, PPE use, sterilization).
Lead induction training for new staff and periodic refresher sessions.
Provide patient and family education on infection prevention where necessary.
Outbreak Management
Lead investigation and containment measures during infection outbreaks.
Coordinate with public health authorities when required.
Maintain outbreak records and reports.
Environmental & Equipment Hygiene
Monitor cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization practices in clinical and non-clinical areas.
Assess waste management and isolation procedures.
Collaborate with housekeeping, laundry, and CSSD teams to ensure compliance.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and confidential records of infection control activities.
Prepare regular reports for hospital leadership and infection control committees.
Use infection control software/tools for data entry and trend analysis.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree or certification in Infection Control preferred.
Certification
Certified in Infection Control (CIC) or equivalent preferred.
Experience
Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in infection prevention/control.
Skills & Competencies
In-depth knowledge of infection prevention practices and epidemiology.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in MS Office and healthcare data software.
Ability to work under pressure and respond to outbreaks rapidly.

Adhere to hospital policies, national public health guidelines, and international best practices (WHO, CDC, etc.).
