The OT Incharge is responsible for the overall supervision, coordination, and management of Operation Theatre services to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. The role includes overseeing OT staff, maintaining sterility and safety standards, ensuring availability of equipment and supplies, and coordinating with surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing teams.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Operational Responsibilities
Ensure smooth functioning of all Operation Theatres in accordance with hospital policies and standard operating procedures.
Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols, OT sterility standards, and patient safety guidelines.
Supervise preparation of OT for surgeries, including equipment checks, instrument readiness, and environmental safety.
Coordinate surgical schedules in consultation with surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff.
Monitor OT utilization, turnaround time, and workflow efficiency.
Staff Management
Supervise, guide, and support OT nursing staff and technicians.
Prepare duty rosters and ensure adequate staffing for all shifts.
Provide orientation, training, and ongoing competency assessment of OT staff.
Promote teamwork, discipline, and professional conduct within the OT team.
Conduct performance evaluations and report staff-related issues to management.
Equipment & Inventory Management
Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and functioning of OT equipment.
Coordinate with biomedical and maintenance departments for timely repairs and servicing.
Monitor inventory of surgical instruments, consumables, and medications.
Ensure proper documentation for equipment usage, maintenance logs, and stock records.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with NABH / regulatory standards and hospital accreditation requirements.
Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety programs.
Report incidents, near misses, and adverse events as per hospital policy.
Ensure accurate documentation of OT records, checklists, and reports.
Coordination & Communication
Act as a liaison between surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, and hospital administration.
Communicate effectively regarding OT schedules, emergencies, and operational challenges.
Handle patient-related concerns within the OT and ensure prompt resolution.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing / GNM); Post Basic or specialty training in OT preferred.
Valid Nursing Council registration.
Minimum
5-7 years of experience
in Operation Theatre, with at least
2 years in a supervisory or in-charge role
.
Experience in multi-specialty or cardiac OT will be an added advantage.

In-depth knowledge of OT procedures, infection control, and surgical protocols.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle emergencies and work under pressure.
