The HVAC Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, coordination, and management of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for residential, commercial, or industrial projects. The role involves collaborating with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure projects are executed on time, within scope, and on budget while meeting all applicable standards and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Design HVAC systems (ductwork, piping, controls) based on project requirements and applicable codes.
Prepare detailed engineering drawings, equipment schedules, and technical specifications.
Conduct load calculations using HVAC software (e.g., HAP, Carrier, Trane Trace).
Review and approve mechanical submittals, shop drawings, and material specifications.
Coordinate with architects, electrical and civil engineers, and other stakeholders.
Manage and monitor HVAC project activities including cost, schedule, and quality.
Conduct site visits to inspect installation, progress, and compliance with design.
Resolve technical issues that arise during design or installation phases.
Ensure adherence to safety regulations, building codes, and green building standards (e.g., LEED).
Support project commissioning and testing, adjusting HVAC systems for performance optimization.
Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports, and records.
Participate in project meetings and provide updates on HVAC project status.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Professional Engineering License (PE) or working towards it is preferred.
2-5+ years of experience in HVAC system design and project execution.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or other design software.
Familiarity with HVAC load calculation tools (HAP, Trace, etc.).
Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards, building codes, and HVAC systems.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM).
Knowledge of sustainable building practices and energy modeling.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
