Understanding Job Requirements



Collaborate with hiring managers or logistics department leads to define: Key responsibilities of freight brokers (e.g., managing carrier relationships, negotiating rates, booking shipments). Required experience (e.g., knowledge of TMS, load boards, industry regulations). Performance metrics (e.g., KPIs such as load volume, margin per load, customer retention).

Creating Accurate s



Draft and post detailed job descriptions highlighting: Logistics/transportation experience. Communication and negotiation skills. Familiarity with freight systems like DAT, Truckstop, McLeod, etc. Ability to work in a high-pressure, commission-driven environment.

Sourcing Candidates



Use industry-specific platforms like: LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor. Niche job boards focused on transportation and logistics. Staffing agencies specializing in supply chain roles. Direct outreach (headhunting) for experienced brokers. Engage in proactive networking in freight/logistics communities and forums.
4.

Screening and Shortlisting



Evaluate resumes for: Previous brokerage or 3PL experience. Knowledge of freight lanes, carrier networks, and freight classifications. Proven sales and negotiation success. Conduct phone and video screenings to assess: Communication clarity and persuasiveness. Cold-calling and client acquisition skills. Understanding of freight operations and compliance (FMCSA, DOT regulations).

Coordinating Assessments



Organize skills assessments or mock calls to test: Ability to secure loads or negotiate rates. Use of CRM/TMS platforms. Problem-solving during freight delays or rate disputes.
6.

Interview Management



Schedule and coordinate interviews with logistics managers or team leads. Prepare interview panels with evaluation criteria based on: Industry knowledge. Sales aptitude. Client/cargo handling skills.
7.

Offer Management & Negotiation



Discuss compensation structure (salary + commission). Ensure clarity on KPIs, ramp-up expectations, and probation targets. Align candidate expectations with company offerings, especially in highly competitive markets.
8.

Onboarding Coordination



Facilitate smooth onboarding by: Coordinating training on logistics software (TMS, load boards). Educating on company freight policies and operational processes. Ensuring compliance with legal and safety regulations in transportation.
9.

Market Intelligence & Benchmarking



Stay updated on: Industry salary trends for freight brokers. Hiring competition from other 3PLs and brokerages. Best practices in hiring logistics talent.
10.

Retention Support (Post-Hiring)



Collect feedback from new hires and managers. Monitor early performance to identify potential fit or training gaps. Suggest changes in hiring strategy if attrition is high.
