The HR Generalist is responsible for managing end-to-end human resource operations with a strong focus on
blue-collar workforce hiring, deployment, and retention
in shipyard and project-based environments. The role ensures timely availability of skilled and unskilled manpower while maintaining statutory compliance, discipline, and operational continuity.
The HR Generalist shall lead
blue-collar recruitment
, including sourcing fitters, welders, electricians, riggers, helpers, and other trades through manpower networks, subcontractors, references, and local sourcing. Responsibilities include trade verification, weld test coordination, skill categorisation, wage finalisation as per project norms, and mobilisation planning aligned with project schedules.
The role includes
onboarding and deployment management
, ensuring collection and verification of mandatory documents, gate pass coordination, accommodation allocation, transport planning, and site induction. The HR Generalist shall closely coordinate with Site Admins and Project Engineers to ensure manpower reaches site on time and remains productive.
The HR Generalist is responsible for
attendance consolidation, payroll coordination, and wage control
for blue-collar manpower. This includes validating daily attendance, overtime, leave, and absences, resolving wage disputes, and coordinating with Accounts for timely salary disbursement. Accurate records are critical for payroll, billing, and statutory compliance.
The position oversees
employee relations and discipline
, handling absenteeism, misconduct, site discipline, accommodation issues, and conflict resolution among workers. The HR Generalist shall issue warnings, coordinate exits, and ensure gate pass cancellation and final settlements as per company policy.
The role also ensures
statutory and labour compliance
, including PF, ESIC, contract labour documentation, and maintenance of labour registers. The HR Generalist reports to the HR Business Partner / Management and works closely with Operations and Finance. Strong field exposure, manpower network strength, and firm people-handling skills are essential for success in this role.
