To clean and maintain patient room, bed as per the standard bed making practices.
To ensure timely bed side services to patients such as: bed making, daily linen change, waste disposal, deep cleaning, toilet cleaning, and toiletries upkeep.
To provide timely bed pan services to each patient at each instance.
To attend patient calls immediately and maintain shorter response time.
To make the bed ready in shortest time for next arriving patient and maintain turnaround time documentation for review.
To check the room / bed thoroughly at the time of patient discharge.
Ensures that the defined standards of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained in all areas.
Take corrective action immediately on complaints raised by patient, patient attendant, nursing, any other department. With respect to housekeeping operations.
To follow daily, weekly, fortnight and monthly cleaning schedules of patient utilities, and patient care areas.
Report, document immediately any incident or sentinel event occurrence.
Manpower Management:
To delegate the jobs/ work assignments to the housekeeping staff and monitor their implementation as per expected process and desired outcome.
Check, & confirm attendance of deputed staff in respective area. Assign specific job function to attendants on duty.
Supervise and guide staff in various housekeeping activities during assigned shift.
Generate incident report if any indiscipline or insubordination incident is conducted by any attendant.
Coordinate the requirement and deputation of special cleaning teams such as: Hindustan mechanized cleaning team and one touch staff among other supervisors in other areas of hospital.
Schedule the lunch timings and staff overlapping during shift change over so that HK services does not get disrupted due to unavailability of staff.
Patient rights:
Ensure protection of patient rights and maintain patient confidentiality and privacy while providing services to patient at the bedside.
If patient has any query regarding any services kindly raise it to the immediate superior for providing correct information.
Ensure same gender housekeeping staff provides housekeeping services to same gender patient that is: female staff to female patient and male staff to male patient.
Do not enter the room of female patient without knocking and check first if any attendant is there with female patient. After consent of patient or patient attendant, then only enter room for providing services.
Patient transport safety:
Ensure patient safety while transporting on wheelchair, stretcher hospital beds. All patient transport must be followed as per standard operating instructions.
Ensure all wheelchairs have proper safety belts, wheel maintained and the seat rexin is in good condition.
All stretcher mattress and safety belts should be properly maintained. All stretchers peddles should be functional smoothly.
Ensure oxygen cylinder has sufficient oxygen level before starting the patient transport.
Always ensure to identify patient with full name and UHID number.
Facility management:
Ensure timely reporting of maintenance issues of AC, civil, biomedical equipment in complaint management system and escalate with pictures to immediate superiors on an urgent basis for rectification.

Linen management:
Check and provide correct size of clothes to patients.
Before providing patient uniform check for any stain or bad smell from linen. Linen should be fresh, odour less and should not be torned or repaired.
Take daily stock of linen and inform deficit if any for timely supply of buffer stock.
Facilitate laundry in taking monthly stock of linen inventory.
Fresh linen stock should be kept in lock and key to prevent pilferage and waste.
Dirty linen should be kept covered in dirty linen trolleys.
Soiled linen should be treated immediately so that soil can be disposed off and other dirty linen can be kept properly.
Linen to be provided as per the standard inventory and the type approved for a particular bed category.
Bio medical waste management:
All waste dustbins should have respective colour coded stickers. According to which, only that category of waste should be discarded in that dustbin.
Conduct daily bio medical waste segregation audit checklist of the area in which you are deputed.
Bio-medical waste should be segregated as per the BMW guidelines 2016.
Sharp containers should not be used once they are 3/4th filled with sharp waste.
Bio medical waste should be covered properly and then only transported in trolleys. There should not be any leakage from the poly bags containing bio medical waste.
Pest control:
To ensure timely pest control in the deputed area.
Special emphasis and eye for details should be paid to identify any occurrence of pest such as: mosquito, bed bug, cockroach, lizard, rats, or any kind of ant.
No left over food should be kept in any area which can become a potential in habitat for any type of pest.
Employee safety:
Personal protective equipment such as: face mask, hand gloves, shoes should be used while handling bio medical waste or any hazardous chemical.
All precautions should be used to avoid any employee injury in case of lifting any heavy material.
All housekeeping staff must be vaccinated as per infection control guidelines and should be immunized to prevent any infection.
All needle stick injury incidents to any housekeeping staff must be reported immediately to superior and infection control nurse.
Incident report on needle stick injury must be documented and submitted to infection control department.
In case of providing services to any H1 N1 patient. All HK staff must be provided with nitrile face masks.
Material Management:
Indenting, receiving and making consumption entries in HIS for inventory control.
Issue of cleaning material, maintenance of the stock material and taking inventory of stock for proper requisition of material on weekly basis.
Assist material department in scrap disposal.
To control the pilferage and wastage of material.
Key performance indicator monitoring:
Compliance percentage of bio medical waste segregation.
Value of material not consumed in HIS and pending in HIS.
Time taken for the room / bed readiness after patient discharge.
Transport TAT for patient to radiology, OT and other diagnostic dept.
Incidences of patient falls in respective wards.
Number of major spill in respective ward.
Number of times delay in providing bed pan to patients.
Code of conduct at work place:
To perform job/task as and when assigned by the superiors.
To be punctual on duty and time schedule.
To comply with concurrent policies of the hospital.
Disaster Management:
To participate in the disaster drill such as fire evacuation drill, spill management, code violet - in case of violence, code pink in case of child abduction, bomb threat, internal disaster and external disaster response.
