The Housekeeping Supervisor in a hospital environment is responsible for managing and overseeing housekeeping staff to ensure that all hospital areas--including patient rooms, operating theaters, public areas, and administrative offices--are cleaned and sanitized according to strict hygiene and infection control standards. The role ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate housekeeping staff to maintain cleanliness across all hospital areas, including patient rooms, wards, OPDs, surgical areas, and labs.
Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols as per hospital standards and local health regulations.
Conduct regular cleanliness inspections and document findings; take corrective actions when needed.
Allocate daily work assignments, schedule shifts, and manage attendance and performance.
Train housekeeping staff in hospital hygiene practices, biohazard waste management, and safety protocols.
Coordinate with nursing, administration, and maintenance teams to address specific cleaning needs or emergencies (e.g., spills, disinfection after infectious cases).
Ensure proper usage, storage, and inventory control of cleaning agents, PPE, and equipment.
Monitor compliance with hospital policies, especially regarding safety, privacy, and hygiene.
Assist in onboarding new housekeeping staff, conduct refresher training, and ensure competency.
Report maintenance or safety issues (e.g., damaged flooring, water leakage) promptly to relevant departments.
Maintain documentation such as cleaning schedules, inspection reports, incident logs, and staff attendance.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; diploma/certification in housekeeping, hospitality, or healthcare support services preferred.
Minimum 2-4 years of experience in hospital or healthcare housekeeping, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of hospital sanitation protocols, infection control measures, and waste disposal procedures (especially biomedical waste).
Familiarity with government health and safety regulations (e.g., NABH, JCI, or local equivalents).
Ability to train and lead a multicultural, multi-shift housekeeping team.
Basic computer skills (MS Excel, email, reporting tools).
