Hotel accountants need strong technical accounting skills (GAAP, financial reporting, payroll, tax) plus crucial hospitality-specific abilities like proficiency in PMS/POS systems (Opera, M3), cost control, budgeting/forecasting, data analysis, and excellent communication/interpersonal skills to collaborate with management and ensure operational profitability and regulatory compliance Technical & Hard Skills

Hotel Systems

: Applying accounting principles within the unique hospitality context (e.g., revenue recognition for rooms vs. F&B).

Software Proficiency

: Accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage), Hotel Management Systems (Opera, M3), Microsoft Excel.

Payroll & Tax

: Processing payroll, preparing tax reports, managing occupancy/sales taxes.

Accounts Payable/Receivable

: Managing daily transactions, reconciliations, and vendor payments.
