The Stores Pharmacist is responsible for managing the complete pharmacy stores operations, including procurement, inventory management, stock rotation, compliance with regulatory standards, and ensuring timely availability of medicines, surgical supplies, and consumables. The role ensures cost-effective purchasing, accurate record-keeping, and adherence to hospital policies and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:1. Inventory & Store Management
Maintain optimal stock levels for medicines, consumables, and surgical items.
Conduct daily stock verification and monitor expiry, near-expiry, and non-moving items.
Ensure proper storage conditions, segregation, and labeling of all items.
Implement FIFO/FEFO methods for effective stock rotation.
Manage inward and outward stock entries in the system (ERP/Software).
2. Procurement & Vendor Coordination
Coordinate with vendors for timely supply of medicines and consumables.
Prepare purchase orders based on consumption trends and approvals.
Negotiate pricing and ensure cost-effective procurement.
Follow up with vendors for pending deliveries and resolve discrepancies.
3. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate documentation of stock receipts, issues, and returns.
Ensure compliance with Drug & Cosmetic Act, Pharmacy Council norms, and hospital policies.
Maintain narcotic drug records (if applicable) as per statutory guidelines.
Support internal and external audits with required records.
4. Coordination & Communication
Collaborate with pharmacy counters, nursing stations, and clinical teams for stock requirements.
Provide timely alerts for short-expiry or critical stock items.
Attend departmental meetings and support implementation of new processes.
5. Software & Reporting
Update stock data in inventory management systems.
Generate daily/weekly/monthly stock reports.
Monitor consumption trends and recommend improvements.
Qualification & Experience
B.Pharm / D.Pharm
(Mandatory) with valid pharmacy license.
1-3 years of experience in hospital pharmacy stores.
Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacy inventory systems, and procurement procedures.
Skills Required
Strong knowledge of medicines, consumables, and medical supplies.
Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
Strong communication and vendor management skills.
Ability to handle pressure and multitask.
Computer proficiency (MS Office, ERP systems).
