Job Description

The Horticulturist is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining all green spaces across Vignan campuses--including gardens, lawns, trees, landscaped areas, vertical gardens, and nursery stock.

The role requires expertise in plant selection, soil improvement, irrigation systems, maintenance scheduling, and supervising gardening staff to ensure that every school retains a safe, aesthetic, and eco-friendly environment.

Campus Greenery Planning & Development



Design and develop green landscapes across all branches.

Recommend suitable plant varieties considering soil type, climate, and water availability.

Plan botanical, ornamental, and shaded areas around:

o School entrances

o Pathways

o Playgrounds

o Blocks & corridors

o Parking and periphery

Develop seasonal flowerbeds to enhance aesthetics.

Prevent mosquito breeding by monitoring stagnation near plants.

Maintain cleanliness around gardens, pots, and planters.

Plantation & Nursery Management



Create and maintain an in-house nursery for saplings, plants, and seasonal flowers.

Plan mass plantations during monsoon and special environmental drives.

Maintain an updated inventory of plants, saplings, seeds, and fertilizers.

Lawn & Garden Maintenance



Regularly monitor lawns, flowerbeds, hedges, shrubs, trees, and vertical plants.

Ensure systematic trimming, pruning, mowing, and pest control.

Maintain sports-field boundaries and ensure no unsafe vegetation growth.

Soil, Water & Irrigation Management



Conduct soil testing and recommend soil improvement methods.

Plan and manage drip irrigation, sprinkler systems, and water-efficient systems.

Monitor water usage and ensure sustainable practices.

Plant Health Monitoring



Inspect plants regularly for diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.

Recommend organic/inorganic treatments as needed.

Maintain a treatment log with dates, issues, and solutions.

Staff Supervision



Supervise gardeners, helpers, and outsourced horticulture workers in each branch.

Provide training on pruning, fertilizing, watering cycles, and plant care techniques.

Prepare daily and weekly schedules and ensure strict adherence.

Procurement & Inventory Control



Identify and procure high-quality plants, soil, fertilizers, tools, and machinery.

Maintain inventory of:

o Garden tools

o Sprinklers

o Mowers

o Fertilizers & pesticides

Ensure machines like grass cutters are serviced on time.

Landscaping for New Projects



Collaborate with the Civil Project Manager and Architects for new campuses.

Suggest landscape layouts during planning and pre-opening stages.

Estimate cost and develop BOQs for green development.

Reporting & Documentation



Prepare monthly reports on plant health, new plantations, maintenance activities, and issues.

Maintain a campus-wise horticulture dashboard.

Document seasonal plantation calendars.

Skills Required



Strong knowledge of plant varieties, soils, irrigation, pests, and diseases

Ability to design landscapes and manage nurseries

Experience supervising gardeners and horticulture teams

Knowledge of water-efficient plantation systems

Good communication & reporting skills

Passion for green, clean, and aesthetic environments

Qualifications



B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Horticulture, Botany, Agriculture, Plantation Sciences

3-10 years of experience in horticulture or landscaping projects (preferably institutional)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ?30,000.00 - ?50,000.00 per month
