Position Title: Head of Department (HOD) - World Languages-IBDP

Position Overview:
As the Head of the World Languages Department, the employee will lead the department in delivering high-quality language education across Spanish, French, German, Hindi, and Tamil. He/she will be responsible for teaching DP Spanish /French while mentoring and monitoring the performance of all language department faculty. The role requires leadership in curriculum development, staff professional development, student performance tracking, and fostering a multicultural learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Curriculum Management:
Teach DP (Diploma Programme) Spanish, ensuring alignment with IB standards and best practices.
Develop and enhance the DP Spanish curriculum to meet the evolving educational needs of students.
Support the design and implementation of curricula for French, German, Hindi, and Tamil departments, ensuring academic rigor and cultural relevance.
Ensure adherence to international standards and pedagogy within the world languages department.
Department Leadership and Mentorship:
Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to teachers across the World Languages Department.
Conduct regular performance evaluations of teaching staff, offering constructive feedback and identifying professional development opportunities.
Lead departmental meetings to discuss curriculum updates, teaching methodologies, and department goals.
Collaborate with teachers to integrate innovative teaching techniques, technology, and assessment methods.
Coordinate the meeting points of Academic Council members and notify the language team of relevant updates and decisions.
Classroom Walkthroughs and Observations:
Conduct regular classroom walkthroughs to observe teaching practices and the learning environment.
Capture and document observations during walkthroughs, providing actionable feedback to teachers.
Use walkthrough observations to enhance teaching quality, support professional development, and ensure a consistent standard of instruction across languages.
Student Performance and Achievement:
Monitor and assess student performance in DP Spanish and other language courses.
Analyze assessment data to develop strategies for improving student outcomes.
Organize language-related extracurricular activities, workshops, and events that enhance language proficiency and cultural understanding.
Foster a student-centered environment that promotes language immersion and global awareness.
Administrative Duties:
Coordinate with school leadership on department planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Ensure departmental compliance with the school's policies and procedures.
Manage recruitment and onboarding of new language faculty members as needed.
Stay updated on educational trends, particularly in language instruction, and implement changes where necessary.
Collaboration and Professional Development:
Foster collaboration with other departments, especially the English and Humanities departments, for interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
Promote professional growth by organizing workshops, seminars, and language skill development sessions for the department's faculty.
Represent the World Languages Department at school leadership meetings and IB accreditation processes.
Key Qualifications:
Master's degree in a relevant language or education field; specialization in Spanish is preferred.
Proven experience in teaching IB DP Spanish.
Strong leadership and mentorship experience within an educational setting.
Proficiency in at least two other world languages (e.g., French, German) is an advantage.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
