The Head of Department (HOD) - German Language is responsible for leading, developing, and managing the German Language Department. This role ensures high-quality academic delivery, curriculum excellence, faculty development, and operational efficiency. The HOD will champion German language education, promote cultural understanding, and work collaboratively with academic leadership to achieve institutional goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership
Develop, review, and update German language curricula in alignment with institutional standards and international frameworks.
Ensure effective teaching methodologies, learning outcomes, and assessment practices.
Monitor academic performance and maintain high-quality educational standards.
Introduce innovative teaching tools, digital platforms, and technology-enabled learning.
2. Faculty Management
Lead, guide, and mentor German language faculty members.
Plan and conduct training, workshops, and professional development sessions.
Oversee faculty workload, schedules, performance evaluations, and recruitment.
Foster a collaborative and motivating departmental culture.
3. Student Engagement & Support
Create a student-centric learning environment encouraging academic excellence and language proficiency.
Address student queries, grievances, and academic concerns.
Organize German language clubs, cultural events, debates, competitions, and extracurricular activities.
Provide guidance for international certifications (Goethe-Institut exams) and study-abroad opportunities.
4. Departmental Administration
Manage departmental budgets, resources, and infrastructure.
Ensure proper documentation, academic records, and compliance with institutional policies.
Prepare departmental reports, academic calendars, timetables, and operational plans.
Collaborate with other departments for cross-curricular initiatives and events.
5. External Collaboration & Outreach
Build partnerships with German institutions, cultural councils (e.g., Goethe-Institut), universities, and industry partners.
Promote exchange programs, internships, workshops, and guest lectures.
Represent the department at institutional meetings, conferences, and external forums.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Master's degree or higher in German Language, German Studies, Linguistics, or related field.
Strong academic planning and team-management skills.
Minimum
2-3 years of German teaching experience
, with at least
1 years experience as HOD and handled a team
.
Proficiency in German (C1/C2 level as per CEFR).
Bachelor's degree in Languages, Education, or related field.
Certification in
German language teaching (Goethe / TELC / OSD)
preferred.
