Job Description

The HOD - Design (Chains) will lead the design team to develop innovative, marketable, and technically sound chain designs. This position is responsible for the entire design lifecycle--from conceptualization and sketching to CAD modeling, prototyping, and final release to production.
Key Responsibilities

• Design Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of CAD and sketch designers to create trendy, high-quality, and commercially viable chain collections.
• CAD & Technical Design: Oversee the creation of detailed 3D models using Matrix/Rhino, ensuring designs are feasible for manufacturing (DFMA) and adhere to structural requirements.
• Production Liaison: Collaborate with production, tooling, and QC teams to ensure smooth transition from design to manufacturing, minimizing errors in weight and structure.
• Market Research: Research industry trends, analyze competitor products, and develop new, innovative chain designs (e.g., machine-made or handmade chains).
• Quality Control: Review and approve all CAD models, prototypes, and master samples before mass production.
• Workflow Optimization: Develop, implement, and manage standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the design department to improve efficiency and reduce turnaround time (TAT).

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in jewelry CAD designing, with prior experience in team management or leadership roles.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in CAD software, specifically Matrix and Rhino.
• Manufacturing Knowledge: In-depth understanding of precious metal casting, chain-making machinery, soldering, and finishing processes.
• Creativity: Strong sketching and design visualization skills.
• Leadership: Proven ability to manage, motivate, and mentor a design team.
• Education: Degree or diploma in Jewelry Design, CAD Design, or a related field.

• Number of new designs developed per season.
• Accuracy of CAD models (weight variance).
• Reduction in design-to-prototype lead time.
• Production feasibility rate of new designs.

Work Environment

• In-person role, requiring collaboration with factory personnel.
• May require flexibility to meet tight production deadlines.
