Collect blood samples from patients through venipuncture or fingerstick methods.
Properly label, handle, and prepare blood specimens for analysis, ensuring they meet laboratory requirements.
Perform manual and automated blood cell counts, including red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and platelets.
Examine blood smears under the microscope to identify abnormalities in blood cells, such as those seen in anemia, leukemia, or other blood disorders.
Operate and maintain laboratory instruments for hematology tests, including automated cell counters, coagulation analyzers, and hemoglobin electrophoresis systems.
Perform tests for blood cell morphology, hemoglobin levels, and coagulation profiles.
Interpret results and identify any significant variations or abnormalities that could indicate a blood disorder or disease.
Prepare and report findings to pathologists, physicians, or laboratory supervisors for further clinical analysis and diagnosis.
Ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results by performing routine quality control procedures.
Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to meet regulatory and safety standards.
Document all maintenance and quality control activities in accordance with laboratory protocols.
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory safety, specimen handling, and infection control.
Comply with relevant health and safety regulations, including those related to biohazardous materials and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP) and laboratory regulations.
Work with other medical laboratory technicians, technologists, and healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely diagnostic information.
Communicate with healthcare providers about abnormal test results and assist in interpreting findings for patient care.
