Job Summary:
The Dialysis Technician is responsible for assisting in the operation of dialysis machines and ensuring proper dialysis treatments for patients with kidney failure or other renal-related conditions. The technician is integral in preparing, monitoring, and maintaining dialysis equipment, ensuring that all procedures are conducted in accordance with hospital protocols, and assisting with patient care during dialysis treatments.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care and Monitoring:
Prepare and set up dialysis machines for hemodialysis treatments according to physician orders and established protocols.
Monitor patients during dialysis sessions, observing for signs of discomfort, complications, or adverse reactions.
Assist patients with positioning, access site care, and providing comfort measures during dialysis.
Take and record vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature) before, during, and after dialysis treatment.
Communicate any significant changes in the patient's condition to the nursing staff or healthcare team.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Set up, operate, and maintain hemodialysis machines and related equipment, ensuring they function properly and are sterile.
Perform routine checks of dialysis machines, water purification systems, and related devices to ensure they are in good working order.
Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues with dialysis machines or equipment.
Ensure proper disinfection and sterilization of equipment before and after each use.
Documentation and Reporting:
Accurately document patient treatment data, including dialysis settings, patient vital signs, and any complications during the procedure.
Update patient records and ensure all treatment information is properly entered into the hospital's electronic health record (EHR) system.
Maintain logs for equipment maintenance, calibration, and repairs.
Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
Work closely with nephrologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide quality care to dialysis patients.
Assist in patient education, including providing information on dialysis treatments, lifestyle changes, and diet modifications.
Attend team meetings and participate in care planning as needed.
Safety and Infection Control:
Follow strict infection control procedures to ensure patient safety and prevent contamination during dialysis procedures.
Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including proper hand hygiene, sterilization, and disposal of contaminated materials.
Adhere to all hospital policies regarding patient privacy, safety, and quality of care.
