About the role:




DataLEADS is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Health Reporter to join our First Check team and play a crucial role in supporting its mission to verify health-related claims and combat misinformation. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a diverse team of experts and gain hands-on experience in the field of health communication and fact-checking.

Key Responsibilities




Research and execute engaging, accurate and informative health related news stories, long form features, and investigative stories in multimedia formats-- text and visual-- while meeting strict deadlines. Pitch original stories in multimedia formats and execute them in a timely manner. Develop and maintain sources in the health and healthcare sector, including the Union and state health ministries, and regulatory agencies. Conduct thorough research to verify the accuracy of health-related claims and information. This involves cross-referencing multiple reputable sources and databases to ensure the integrity of the information. Work closely with doctors, data scientists, and journalists to gather and analyse data for fact-checking purposes. Work closely with the social media team on managing First Check's online presence, creating engaging content, monitoring interactions, and promoting published content. Stay updated on current health news trends and contribute to proactive strategies to address emerging issues.

Requirements

:




Minimum 1-2 years' experience covering health as a beat for a newsroom. Minimum bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field. Proven track record of being able to build and maintain sources in health. Experience in working with multimedia formats, including shooting, scripting and editing visual stories, will be an added plus. Strong research and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to critically evaluate sources. Proficiency in using online research tools and databases is essential. Familiarity with basic fact-checking and OSINT tools like Advanced Search, Google Lens, Google Trends. Excellent English written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment and adapt to a fast-paced work setting.
