Head of Quality, Final Assembly Line (FAL) is responsible for providing overall management of the plant quality functions to ensure that its Quality Management System is effective in compliance with company policies and applicable international quality standards, rules and regulations. It is also responsible for approving quality plans and schedules for the deliverables (product, services) acceptance. Prepares & publishes quality reports, analyzes failure modes and works along with affected functions to minimize them. Works towards getting the global /customer certifications and ensures that necessary standards are followed in the organization by conducting internal and external audits, updating Standard Operating Procedures, finding gaps and ensuring closure of them.
Functional Standards -
Establishes and monitors effectiveness of all the different procedures that comes with expansion of business and company policies
Ensures that Production (PO) and Maintenance Organization (MO) manuals/expositions are prepared and updated as required
Prepares and reviews Quality Manual, Procedures and instructions necessary to achieve and maintain certification of Quality Management System (QMS) in conformance with requirements of applicable standards and regulations
Audits and Reports
Evaluates by scheduled unscheduled Audits the performance of all functions on all levels for adequate and effective implementation of Quality Policy/Procedures and conformance to Customer quality requirements
Manages external audits (frequency- yearly) and augment the process of action planning basis the reports. Further, liaise with department heads for governance around correction action.
Oversees internal trainings for the quality department and Functional SPOCs on Quality Management System (AS9100)
Supervises the functional member teams that conduct functional/ project audits to generate Internal Audit Reports that will contain all the findings to take corrective measures.
Supply Quality Assurance:
To conduct Quality testing of suppliers (OEMs or authorized distributors) for genuine/ quality parts
Ensure supplier evaluation before taking orders. Scope of work as per SOP.
Inspection on receiving product from supplier and then transferring to goods store. In case of any non-compliance, raising non- conformance report and sending back the product to the supplier
Liaises with team to make supplier aware of new design requirements.
Customer Value
Delivers and satisfies the customer as per their quality specifications. Post the delivery of the product, in case of any technical issues, Quality team is responsible for receiving the issues and transferring them to the respective departments to resolve those
Implements corrective actions coming out of that investigation. RCA (Root Cause Analysis) through 7 quality tools: why-why analysis, fish-bone diagram, pareto analysis, etc.
Additional Responsibilities:
Guides the adoption of directives and procedures to ensure adequate checks on the quality products and full compliance in conventional and internationally acceptable level of quality requirements
Handles yearly calibration of equipment and maintenance of a master list of all items used in manufacturing line. Also, raising alarm prior to calibration time
Manages final clearances for product before it goes to next team and preparation of Non-conformist report on issues detected during manufacturing
Signs all Certificates of Conformity (CoC) of products delivered to customers, confirming that all products fully comply with relevant quality contractual requirements, specifications and drawings of customer.
Retains all the reports related to the product for traceability and route cause investigation
Participates in the establishment of appropriate quality metrics and monitors the performance of all companys functions. Initiates corrective and preventive action plan whenever companys quality performance deviate from established targets.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Educational Qualification
Master/ Bachelors degree in Engineering (B.Tech/BEng.)
Desirable - Post Graduate (Quality Management / Operations)
Specific Certification (If required)
Exposure to AS9100, Quality Management Systems, knowledge of Civil and Defense airworthiness certification requirements
Experience required for the role (Also specify type/industry if necessary)
Should understand aircraft systems and integration, knowledge of how systems work, understanding requirements full scale assembly and integration of large aeroplanes.
Sound knowledge of QMS standards, Airworthiness standards, GD&T principles, knowledge / certification in process capability (six sigma), Advance Product Quality Planning.
