Role Summary:
As the
Head of Quality Assurance
, you will be responsible for overseeing and governing the Quality Assurance systems across our multi-plant, multi-product heavy fabrication facilities. This includes manufacturing critical components such as structures, towers, and process equipment. The role demands strong expertise in welding engineering, the implementation of Quality Management Systems (QMS), and driving continuous process improvements to ensure defect-free, first-pass quality across all manufacturing stages.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Planning & Systems
Develop, implement, and maintain the company-wide Quality Management System (QMS) ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, ASME, AWS, and API standards.
Prepare and review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT).
Lead Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) during New Product Development (NPD) to ensure process robustness before production release.
Formulate and approve Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Control Plans tailored to various product lines and customer requirements.
2. Welding & Fabrication Quality
Oversee all welding QA activities, including consumable control, weld parameter qualification, welder performance, preheat/post-heat compliance, and defect prevention.
Ensure the calibration and validation of all inspection and Nondestructive Testing (NDT) equipment.
Support production teams in resolving welding and fabrication quality issues using root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions (CAPA).
3. Multi-Plant Quality Governance
Implement uniform QA procedures, checklists, and audit systems across all manufacturing locations.
Conduct internal process audits, supplier audits, and inter-plant performance benchmarking.
Consolidate and report quality performance metrics, and drive improvement initiatives across plants.
4. Customer & Regulatory Interface
Act as the primary point of contact for customer and third-party inspections (Lloyds, BV, TUV, etc.).
Coordinate with external labs for material testing and ensure traceability of all incoming and in-process materials.
Obtain inspection and dispatch clearance from clients while maintaining complete Quality Dossiers and Manufacturing Record Books (MRBs).
5. Training & Capability Development
Develop and deliver structured training programs for welders, inspectors, and engineers covering welding fundamentals, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), NDT techniques, and problem-solving tools.
Foster a "Quality First" culture and raise awareness of customer expectations across the shop floor.
Coach and mentor QA/QC team members to build both technical and leadership capabilities.
6. Performance & Continuous Improvement
Measure and report Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), internal rework, and defect trends to senior leadership.
Lead improvement projects using Lean tools, 7 QC tools, and statistical techniques.
Implement digital quality tracking systems and ERP-based solutions for inspection traceability and documentation control.
Required Skills & Competencies:
Expert understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW) and NDT methods (UT, RT, PT, MT).
Strong working knowledge of fabrication codes such as ASME Section VIII, AWS D1.1, API 650, EN 1090, etc.
Proven ability to lead and manage multi-location QA teams with exceptional leadership and decision-making skills.
Strong communication, presentation, and analytical skills.
Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems, and digital quality tools.
Education & Experience:
Education:
B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical, Welding, or Metallurgical Engineering (mandatory).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Quality Management or Industrial Engineering. NDT Level II certification in UT/RT/PT/MT is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum 15 years of experience in QA leadership roles within heavy fabrication, structural, or process equipment manufacturing environments.
Language Proficiency:
English is required. Knowledge of Tamil and Hindi is desirable.

Location:
The role will be based at the Pondicherry plant with occasional travel to other facilities, as required.
