We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Head of Non-Financial Risk - Markets & Securities Services, South Asia.

Job Introduction

The Head of Non-Financial Risk (NFR) will be responsible for protecting HSBC, its People, Clients and Financial Markets by helping safeguarding the delivery of fair outcomes to our customers and avoiding disruption of the orderly and transparent operation of Financial Markets.

The role holder will oversee the non-financial risk and control framework within the Markets & Securities Services (MSS) business for South Asian countries including India, support the business by owning and ensuring effective implementation of risk, conduct and control standards. They will play a key role in leading the enhancement/improvement of controls and best practice \xe2\x80\x93 and thereby ensuring the business can grow safely.

The role holder will act as a trusted advisor and enable business stakeholders providing advice, independent challenge and assessment in relation to regulatory, conduct and wider NFR risk and controls, including internal and external audit activities.

The individual is expected to be commercial oriented and also drive capability in a product and change management focused risk team building expertise and specialisms in emerging areas (such as digital capabilities and resilience risk). The role holder must demonstrate strong team work and collaboration. Importantly, the individual will be held accountable for upholding and promoting the firms culture and values, as well as promoting a strong compliance culture and best behaviors.

The Head of NFR role with report functionally the Regional Head of NFR \xe2\x80\x93 MSS, APAC and to the COO, MSS \xe2\x80\x93 South Asia locally in India.

Principal Responsibilities

The role holder will be responsible for:

  • Leading the MSS NFR function across South Asia, operating within the 1LoD, alongside MSS COO and in partnership with the Asset Class Heads, Support Functions and Risk Stewards
  • Ensuring appropriate oversight of the business risk and control environment across all South Asia business lines and functions, executing activities in line with the Group Risk Management Framework (RMF)
\xc2\xb7 Driving an outcome focused agenda for NFR function

\xc2\xb7 Hiring and managing a strong and capable team; play a mentorship role to key positions within the NFR function and developing and maintaining a succession plan

\xc2\xb7 Participating in industry forums when required

\xc2\xb7 Ensuring all audit, legal and regulatory and supervisory requirements are adhered to, including conduct, compliance and policies and procedures.

From a Strategy perspective, the role holder will:

\xc2\xb7 Contribute to the development and implementation of an overall strategy and vision for the team in line with non-financial risk and overall MSS strategy
  • Develop and manage stakeholder relationships across asset class and support functions
  • Act as a senior leader, driving the direction and coordination of risk management activities across MSS South Asia
  • Lead the NFR team to accurately manage risk assessments, control environment, issues management, new product due diligence and change execution risk
  • Contribute to the broader strategy and performance of the regional and global NFR team
From a Risk / Conduct / Control perspective:
  • Manage non-financial risks within business appetite
  • Escalate issues to senior management in a timely manner and drive remediation
  • Run MSS NFR governance forums and manage escalations to regional and group risk management forums
  • Regularly review the priorities, activities, team structure and resources to efficiently and effectively manage business requirements and risk appetite
  • Implement supporting strategies, policies and procedures to ensure non-financial risks are managed effectively, and in a commercially sensitive and practical manner
  • Drive to ensure that the business risk profile, and any related issues/impacts, are understood by the business and the appropriate actions (and/or risk acceptance) are put in place to manage within appetite.
Requirements

\xc2\xb7 Degree holder, preferably with a professional qualification, with strong knowledge of Markets products, front \xe2\x80\x93 back processes and regulations

\xc2\xb7 15 \xe2\x80\x93 20 years of experience in 1st Line of defence roles, front office business management or compliance roles within Markets business

\xc2\xb7 Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills

\xc2\xb7 Well-developed leadership and people management skills, able to drive change and provide positive influence to achieve organisation goals

\xc2\xb7 Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to negotiate and work effectively with senior business leaders across business lines and geographies

\xc2\xb7 Strong problem solving and prioritization skills and be able to perform multitask under pressure with a keen eye for detail

\xc2\xb7 Excellent team player with a proactive and self-motivated attitude and ability to think and act independently

\xc2\xb7 Strong commercial awareness.
