About the Role

We're establishing our Location Engineering Center in India to accelerate the development of next-generation mapping and geospatial systems. We're looking for a

hands-on engineering leader

-- someone who can dive deep into algorithms, architecture, and performance, and build core systems from the ground up.

You'll own the technical roadmap for our India location stack, mentor engineers, and be the go-to expert for solving complex geospatial challenges -- from routing to data ingestion to spatial analytics.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and build core systems for maps, routing, geocoding, and location intelligence. Design efficient

spatial algorithms

and

data pipelines

for large-scale geospatial data. Build and lead a small, high-performing engineering team in India. Partner with global teams on architecture, performance optimization, and system design. Drive technical excellence through code reviews, mentorship, and design discussions. Stay hands-on -- write code, prototype algorithms, and optimize real systems. Evaluate and integrate open-source and proprietary map data sources (e.g., OSM, Mapbox, HERE). Contribute to overall architecture and infrastructure strategy for location services.

Qualifications

10-15 years of experience in software engineering, including significant work in maps, navigation, or geospatial systems. Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design. Strong coding skills in C++ / C#. Experience with distributed systems, data processing pipelines, and spatial databases (PostGIS, S2, H3, etc.). Strong knowledge of routing, map-matching, coordinate systems, and search algorithms. Proven record of technical leadership -- solving complex problems and mentoring teams. Experience scaling systems to billions of data/ events per day is a plus.

Preferred Background

Worked in core maps / navigation / geospatial platforms. Background in computer science, algorithms, or computational geometry. Experience with ML or data fusion for maps a plus.
